Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2021 Applicants

I wanted to start a new thread for those of us applying to Houston new grad nurse residency programs to ask questions and share information.

I am brand new to this site so I hope I'm doing this correctly... Good luck everyone!

Anyone know if all of these places will still have everything virtually like interviews and such? Or if anything is back to being in person?

I can’t remember which hospital but I saw that they had “adjusted” their interviewing so I assume MOSTLY virtual but not completely sure.

For Methodist.... are we able to go back and change our preferences for locations/specialties once we registered? I'm regretting putting mine in the order I did, and I wasn't sure if there's a way to change it?

does anyone know when St. Luke closes their application? I don't see a date on their website. It just says mid-February.

Hi Ya'll, just wanted to put this out there, for any new grad nurses still looking for work, I recently started working at a covid testing center in Harris county so I have something to do before residency. Did anyone that applied for Harris Health get their GN survey yet? I got mine and completed it, then it said to submit the documents required to an email that was given. I wasnt sure if we just were supposed to go ahead and send them or wait to receive the GN checklist? I’ve heard from previous applicants that they needed to submit an essay and a checklist but the email I received said nothing about that as well as they survey didn’t mention it. I just want to make sure I’m submitting everything I need.

I received the survey and just emailed what they asked for in one pdf file.

Okay, that’s what I did too. I just saw on the flyer that for step 2 a GN Checklist was part of the requirements, but I figured if they didn’t send us one then it was fine. I sent everything else they wanted. Good luck!

That's my plan! I am just waiting on a rec letter. Does it let you add attachments after submitting it. I saw there was an option to log in as a candidate.

Hi everyone, I was looking at the Harris Health System residency program requirements and Im a little confused. The instructions say to send "GN Permit or RN license from the state of TX prior to beginning employment" do they want us to be licensed before we even apply? If somebody could clear this up that would be great. Thanks!

I don’t think you can go back into it after the fact but I’m not sure. I know it only specifically asked for resume and transcripts at this point but I uploaded my LOR’s as well... but I’m not sure if it was necessary

Only needed if you have it. Otherwise just have to be licensed before you start. This is because they accept nurses still within their first year as an RN.
