Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2021 Applicants

I wanted to start a new thread for those of us applying to Houston new grad nurse residency programs to ask questions and share information.

I am brand new to this site so I hope I'm doing this correctly... Good luck everyone!

Oh wow thanks for posting this, I hadn't seen anything on their website!

St. Luke's website says 30-50 people are offered, not sure how many apply

They did. 

Side note - I forgot to add. On the survey they had applicants fill out, ICU was crossed out but I know a few ppl who will be starting ICU here in a few weeks.

Looking back through my emails, I don't remember their application dates but I received an email 09/21 from a St. Luke's recruiter to submit the survey (nurse residency survey that had some questions on it, updated resume with GPA, and transcript) and received the interview invite 10/16 and interviewed 11/04. It was a pretty long process, but who knows if that was due to everything with covid and them adjusting to a new interview process.

Does anyone know when St.Luke's application closes??

I take my NCLEX tomorrow and wanted to apply with my license on my resume but don't want to miss the opportunity. I won't get results til at least Friday.

Is anyone applying to HCA? their applications are up as well. I’m applying but I’ve heard mixed things about them.

I was planning to but haven’t heard much about them...what have you heard? Not from Houston so I appreciate insider insight LOL

They’re hiring for people who graduated already.

They have an awesome residency program and those who’ve gone through it feel supported and confident. Downsides - pay is lower than surrounding facilities and 2yr contract with monetary repayment if you don’t complete. So if it’s not a dream unit then there’s potential for someone to be unhappy for 2yrs which also doesn’t start until after training which could be up to 15-20wks and during training you get base pay but no differentials

Hi there! Just read this thread and found a lot of useful info so thank you guys! I was wondering if anyone has got in touch with an MD anderson recruiter? I see positions open on their website but I'm not sure if they are the right ones... I called the HR number on the website and the lady was clueless. MD anderson is one of my top choices and I just want to make sure that I don't miss the application window!

You definitely didn't miss the application window for the Summer start dates because I think they're just now starting to post those positions - I believe there are three positions open on their website now. It looks like they're doing it more by unit instead of hospital as a whole so I'm just going to check daily and see what comes up

These positions are for those who graduated. If you’re Spring 21 graduate, they won’t accept
