House Democrats plan to impeach Trump for 'incitement of insurrection' following the deadly Capitol riots

Published

House Democrats are planning to impeach President Donald Trump for "incitement of insurrection," according to a draft article of impeachment obtained by CNN on Friday.

The push is being led by the Democratic lawmakers David Cicilline, Jamie Raskin, and Ted Lieu and the articles will reportedly be formally introduced on Monday.

A White House spokesperson decried the "politically motivated" impeachment push, saying that it "will only serve to further divide our great country."

This development follows the president inciting a violent mob of his supporters to storm the US Capitol on Wednesday to stop the peaceful transfer of power. The riots resulted in multiple injuries and five deaths...

Something to think about?

If McConnell even quietly supports Trump's impeachment, I think this creates a huge schism for not just the party but for McConnell himself.

Senate votes... if he's not impeached? Which senators voted which way?

The ones that didn't support impeachment, means that they are not behind McConnell. The ones that support impeachment means that a significant number has maybe about 50 million people to contend with.

Impeachment fractures a party that is riddled with vipers. Non impeachment means ignominy in history, possibly losing corporate funding and resentment from an emboldened upper house with the Dems and possible loss of future votes for republicans. They will have to defect, even silently.

Republicans don't hold their tongues well and their only playbook appears to be bullhorns. Hawley and Cruz will turn on each other laying the blame and then point fingers at other Republicans!

But, here's the kicker! Trump is a scheming, conniving little ***. What information does he have on the Republicans? How will he use it? And against whom?

It is indeed something to watch with interest as it unfolds.

I hate that this is happening to our country, but do take some satisfaction watching things blow up in their face.  Trump supporters are saying "hang Pence", Graham is being accosted as a traitor, fingers pointed at each other.  They can't blame Democrats for destroying the Republican Party.  They can blame themselves and the wreckage is considerable.  Time will tell.  Disdain for Democrats even among non-extremists that fear "socialism" and abortion is still alive and well.

House of Representatives voted 232 ( included 10 Republicans) – 197  to impeach Trump for inciting the attempted coup on January 6 and for trying to overturn Joe Biden’s election as president.

Several Democrats stated Republican members fearful for their and family safety if voted yes due to FBI security updates received.

Biden no longer taking Amtrak to Inauguration due to security.  15,00 National Guard troops now in DC --to swell to 20,000 next week.

Yes, it is about time!  Now it is official, historically he is the worse President and he knows it! No matter how many are in the Trump cult and follow White Supremist propaganda everyday wishing to tear down our country and stop its progression to a more perfect union, Trump will never ever be President again.  Yes, I know we have to wait for his conviction to see if he will by law not be allowed to hold public office again.  However, I don't think even Republicans will allow a two-time-impeached former president to lead their party, but we will see.  The sheep of their party have excused Trump for far less for too long and Trump and his ardent crazy supporters have gotten out of hand.

Not so sure about republicans Summer? He has a week left to go and who knows what secrets he might sell, what war he might start or what other types of havoc he can wreak?

They, the republican senators are responsible for anything he does now, especially McConnell for not quickly scheduling and whipping a vote for impeachment!

They are responsible for all the harm he's caused since they failed to impeach him the first time!

Tonight, House Passed 25th Amendment Resolution urging Pence  and Cabinet to remove Pres. Trump from office

Pence sent letter to Pelosi -- says he won't invoke 25th Amendment.

Impeachment vote tomorrow afternoon.

Pence's letter is more thoughtful and more credible than the summaries of it would have you believe. Not saying he's right, but not saying he's wrong, either.

I'll say it...he's wrong.

For him to even mention pandemic makes me want to puke. What was his role in the administration re the pandemic?

He talks about healing when he enabled Trump for all of his presidency and is equally culpable for everything that happened!

Sweet words and unctuousioness are the traits of snake charmers ,but he's a devious, nasty piece of work who has only recently cleaned up his presentation. Take a look at him when he did his radio show I think it was. He really is a piece of work!

This guy has been bad for a very long time! He's always discriminated and always sown division!

Pence is not thoughtful. Pence wrote this letter trying to make it seem like he is a sane bystander that should be President of the United States in 2024.  Pence is putting his political career before country!  The 25th Amendment should have been invoked (and still can be), so there is nothing OK about what Pence has done.  He has helped this White Supremist in Chief sow division and chaos for 4 years, which has built up to an attempted coup!  He too will go down in world history as being a Trump Traitor/Supporter.

Yes he will.

That will dovetail nicely with his status as person placed in charge of the Trump COVID failure.
