This is my first summer off as a school nurse. Any tips on budgeting for the summer? Think I'll have to hide most of that money from my husband because he will think he needs to spend it! If there is x amount in the bank, he thinks that is x amount to spend. Doesn't think about bills, groceries, etc.
This makes me glad we get paid year-round here.
I am the only source of income for me and my 3 kids, so no pay or a lump sum for the summer would be rough for me. I am actually nervous about the end of the summer. In August we are skipping a week in our biweekly pay cycle so we are going 3 weeks between paychecks for one period. They have been warning us about if for about a year now. Still nervous. Especially right before school starts.
We have an option to spread our paychecks out over 12 months but that would mean smaller checks each pay period and I am barely staying above water as it is.
I am working summer school. It's not a lot of money but anything is better than nothing at all. I also babysit as much as I can and am fiendishly looking for a per diem job.
Last week, I had to officially decide if I am coming back to work next school year and I really had to think about it. I love the kids and I love the schedule and I love (most of) the teachers but I am amazed at how little I am paid. I am pretty sure I will get a raise after coming back next year in addition to a COL raise so I hope that helps.

they started a 12 month option here - but mid year. i'll sign up for it in september. i get a portion of my check deposited into saving anyhow to cover expenses - which i'll continue to do.
