I saw this on the news last weekend and keep forgetting to post about it (forgive me if it's already been posted about and I missed it).
This group of hospitals is now offering patients a "money back guarantee", no questions asked, if the patient isn't completely satisfied with their stay. One of the customers in the story requested money back because her dinner tray was 45 minutes late. This just seems ridiculous and like a slap in the face to nurses and other health care workers.
So that leaves me wondering, what are your thoughts on the matter?

That is wrong on so many levels.
Are the hospitals going to hire extra staff? I doubt it.
Are they going to expect the nurses to put patient comfort and satisfaction ahead of patient safety and healing? Probably.
Are the patients going to become more demanding, and on the things that don't matter nearly as much as good nursing care? Most likely.
Are the nurses going to burn out faster? Undoubtedly.

Well the joke is on the hospital. In this sue-happy society that we live in, you can bet that patients will suddenly be dissatisfied with everything. I mean seriously. You can get free healthcare simply because you weren't pleased with dinner. They're going to attract the worst kind of patients and their good nurses will eventually leave. This hospital just screwed itself over.
I didn't even think about the increase is turn over. The idea is just ridiculous. The healthcare industry is already too customer service oriented IMHO and this just took it to a whole new, insulting level.
It'd be interesting to see how long they can actually keep up with this.

Honestly I hope "Karen" REALLY needs a nurse someday and finds out that they all left the bedside because of this type of BS. Or her nurse is too busy with fluffing pillows to administer CPR to her. Ugh, her idiot statement that "my tray was 45 minutes late" makes me want to vomit.

Yep. Saw this. Made me want to absolutely barf. I would never work for that organization, no matter how destitute I was. Forget it. My nurse friends pointed out something I didn't think of, either: they bet the "nurses" featured and interviewed in that news story were probably both administrators who hadn't touched actual patients in years. I'm betting they are probably correct.

...I can see waitressing being a pre-employment requirement for that hospital in the near future....acute care experience preferred...

That's the dumbest thing I have read in a while. It is unsustainable. I wanted to know how the ladies herniated disc surgery turned out? If she ever got over the trauma of having her tray delayed? This is why experienced nurses are giving up bedside nursing; it just isn't actual nursing anymore, the priorities are all wrong.
