Hey...so i went to this nurse recruitment thing the other night at the hopital I work at......and boy, I was almost embarrassed to say that I work there! They did this western themed thing and all the mangers/team leaders were dressed in blue jeans/bandanas/dollar store cowboy hats, etc. And kept referring to events in western themes..."let's hit the trail..." for tours of units. And they didn't let us go to more than 1 floor...they did these hokey presentations of line-dancing and stories round the campfire....etc.
My thought is that compared to the last one I went to (Where we could tour more than one floor, during the entire 3 hours.....and the mangers answered all our questions, and we didn't have to sit through these lloooonng speeches....) Why don't hospitals think that students care about being professionals? I felt that they disserviced the image of nurses at the hospital, and didn't care if someone was between 2-3 units of interest.....and before someone says for me to grow a funnybone...I did enjoy parts of the evening...(watching my manager have to line dance....heard she lied to new grads about n/p ratio.....winning a travel bag and a 1/2 FREE massage at the health center...) any thoughts? Are most recruitment things like that?

Those managment people must really want to keep their jobs badly. Up until this moment this is the most humiliating thing I have ever heard of management having to do. The form is humiliating to everyone especially those that had to get up there and dance. The content is insulting because it had no substance what so ever. The whole story just make me shake my head, matter of fact it makes me angry.:hlk:

Sounds like you were applying to Shoneys! As a waitress or server.

Yee-Haw!!! Did they have a place for you to park your horse out front?
Seriously though, imagine recruiting lawyers, physicians, business execs, school teachers, this way.

I haven't heard of anything quite so outlandish in my area, but I detest even the recurring theme of promoting a recruiting event as highlighted by sweet treats and take-home goodie bags filled with girly personal care items.
Are you recruiting professional nurses or 10-year old girls?

my thoughts exactly, luvschoolnursing.
Can you imagine recruiting physicians with this kindergarten crap? How about wearing professional clothing, giving a solid presentation on why your hospital is the best choice to work at and not insulting the intelligence of a group of EDUCATED individuals who all HOLD DEGREES/LICENSES in nursing. Only touring one unit? That would be a red flag for me. The whole presentation would be a red flag for me.

Well, at least this place is entertaining the idea of hiring new grads. I have heard that some places are not being so quick to take new, inexperienced nurses on board. Whoever thought this was a good idea must be just trying to get a new slant on the age old problem of gaining the best employees for the facility.
