Just took a look at latest prognostications..... of the 6 available hurricane models, 3 of them are directed toward the Galveston-Houston area. Looks like it may be another exciting weekend.
i do hpe that these will hit a less populated area..not that it will be better for those who are hit but just that the number who are impacted will be less and that will leave more to assist themby the way, i don't know how to prepare for the cold, i would certainly be found frozen stiff
While living in the north. I always to use have in my trunk. Extra blanket, snow boots, ski suit ( jacket and snow pants) shovel, kitty litter , and a candle.
Down here ,, hmmmm I think I need water wings in the trunk. All kidding aside. We are having some of the outward rain bands in our area, There has been some minor flooding of our roads. If the outer bands are causing this in our area. I can only imagine what it will be like once it hits mainland somewhere in our country.
Just got an email from Christus Health that they need volunteers for 36 hours to be in San Antonio tomorrow, then to be bused to the costal areas and assist with evacuation of patients. Seems like it is going to hit the Texas coast, or at least they think there is a high probablility of that happening. If anybody is interested in doing this volunteer thing, let me know and I'll get you a copy of the email-I can't do it with such short notice.
Please keep us posted on if there are any other opportunities to help. You know, in national emergencies, they should have some way of sending notifications to all the RNs in the forum about opportunities to help. All of you who are in the hurricanes path, stay safe.. and remember, material things cannot replace a life.:loveya:
ok now according to http://www.stormpulse.com we are now looking at a cat 4 instead of a 3....

Here's a cut and paste of the email I rec'd:
Hurricane Ike request for Nursing Volunteers
Please read the message below:
Sent: Tue Sep 09 09:53:21 2008
Subject: Immediate Request for Nurses
To All:
As part of the continuing Hurricane Ike response efforts, DSHS currently has an immediate need for nurses. Approximately 50 nurses are needed in San Antonio at the Staging Center no later than 8:00 AM on Wednesday morning. The deployment of the nurses will be for approximate 36-hours. They will be deployed to ride on a coach bus to the Hurricane evacuation area to pick up patients, care for them on the bus ride to a shelter, and then return to San Antonio for demobilization.
If any nurses are interested, please have them contact Patty Melchior at the DSHS MACC, Logistics Section, (512) 532-4950. To confirm who will be deployed to San Antonio, DSHS will need the name of the nurse and their certification number for tracking purposes.
Any assistance that the RACs and nurses can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I am sure that they would know of other volunteer efforts, if anyone is interested.
tex, thanks for that link..it is one of the best i have seenstay safe
tropicwx.com compiles information. Stormpulse takes existing info and puts it in a nice, easy to read deal.
It's going to be 3 or 4 and will hit, according to my best guess (I'm kind of the amateur meterologist in the ICU), Freeport. The models are trending north.

My prayers for you guys. Hope they do get plenty of volunteers! And also that though you would be in disaster mode you would get plenty of help and relief!
God bless you all!
