So, I'm a Nursing Student and recently in addition to my waitressing job, I started doing like camgirl stuff online. Do you think I could be fired as a RN in the future? Or it could come up in a background check and hinder my employment majorly? I've made over $400 on the camming website so I'm required to file taxes eventually and I guess I'm just scared I could lose my RN license one day. I just don't want anything to jeopardize my dream but I also would like to be able to stay in school so I can reach it. I realize now I jumped into this head first before really thinking of the consequences, but now I need to decide to continue doing it or stopping.
I guess any general advice would be wonderful to ease (or fuel) my anxiety. Thank you!
sigh, every time i want to stop, someone says something even more ridiculous.1. Grad and med school --i know graduate nurses that have done the same. Live stripping not just through an online cam for people halfway across the country. Same city and town as the school she went to
2. You got blacklisted by ONE job. Did you find another ? Are you doing okay there? Your sig says 5 years of experience so i would imagine you landed on your feet after that unfortunate event
3. Poster already said she doesn't use her real name, nor has she put her name on this forum, nor does her forum name here have any connection to her work name. Attention to detail 0/10
i would hope the OP would know to dress herself up with a wig or something as to not look EXACTLY like she does in real life outside of "work", but ill have to chalk that up to the OPs own common sense hopefully.
In otherwords, unlike your scenario where you gave your executioner the ammunition to shoot you dead, someone would really have to be out to get her in her scenario.
Oh wow, a wig? Like that would make a difference? Unless she wore clown make up, if the pictures came to light it could really damage her career. And she is giving herself the ammunition to shoot herself. She should either stop or just continue with the cam girl stuff & give up on nursing because honestly, nothing on the internet stays hidden. If you think it does then you are seriously ignorant. No one has to 'be out to get her'. She doesn't own anything on the other side of the camera & if a guy thinks she's hot & wants to post it on a Media site or some other site, he can do as he pleases.
Yes I got a job but it wasn't as great as the one I lost.
If you have the self confidence and bandwidth to do such a job, plus are well compensated kudos to you if it fits within your personal morality. For me, $50,000/hr and I don't know if I could be a cam girl. But everyone needs to know where to draw the line.
Know that some BoN take a wide stance on moral turpitude I can't search well on my phone but in the past couple of years a PA RN had her license revoked for working an online sex company with her husband. The business was legitimate and legal with impeccable records. I forget what the exact verbiage of the "charges" that were brought before the BoN but in the end the nurse lost her nursing license and job for violation of "moral turpitude". She loved her nursing job and the Internet adult videos/camera service was a side job that happened to pay extremely well. Financially she was okay but she had a choice to make. There is this very real risk even doing such a side job, more so with the www than with working in a club since anything can be recorded and taken out of context. In live shows the businesses likely don't take kindly to patrons secretly taping their workers for later use so there is a tad bit more protection in live/in person/club work.
If you enjoy the work and the paycheck perhaps consult with a nurse attorney in your state to see what issues could possibly occur in your state. Forewarned is forearmed and a consultation may be worth the cost to secure your future. The American Association of Nurse Attorneys offers a free lawyer referral service. It's likely better to pay for an experienced attorney's expertise than rely on an anonymous message board. TAANA Executive Office - Home
yup because the outcome of your mistake means everyone will suffer the same fate. especially the ones i know that have done exactly what she's done, and in a much more dangerous manner, and still made it out a-okay. Right, i'm the ignorant one.
No one said she's without risk. You however are blowing it way out of proportion however with your shameful fearmongering which is uncalled for and unneeded. Good luck with all that..
But all opinions have a right to be voiced and heard. Hopefully the OP gathered some valuable info and figured out where to go and what to do from here.
With that said
Good day.

Did you read JustBeacyNurse's reply? A nurse lost her LICENSE. I lost my job. Can't you see there are real repercussions for actions like that. If you refuse to see it then there is nothing more I can say. Your friends are lucky nothing happened to them because it *does* happen. And who's to stay nothing won't happen in the future? If they stripped on the internet it might be out there.
Son of a biscuit....I typed out this whole response and the ether ate it.
OP, how do you get paid? If you get a W2 or 1098 from this company, it will show up in employment history and any potential employer can look up the company and find out what they are/do. All my background checks included past employment. If you're not getting W2s or 1098s....worry about the IRS first.
@elijahvargo - yes clearly I have an irrational fear of the internet.....which I use every day.
Oh wow, some of the posts on this thread are so judgemental. Personally, considering what you said you want to do as a nurse, I don't see that much of an issue, especially since this is a pay for college job, not a side job while nursing. I want a sexual health provider I can talk to without feeling judged or nervous to talk to and you sound peachy. Up where I live there is a decent sized sex positive community. There's a clinic I know of that actually promotes themselves to them as being open minded, non judgemental, and understanding. Personally I think we need more places like that. The whole sex is shameful attitude is damaging. If you continue doing it once you have a lisence then you run into the risk of the situations mentioned.
I wouldn't do what you do, but if it makes you happy and you're protecting yourself, more power to you.
I used to work for one of those tell all companies before I decided to go to nursing school. Get a reputation management service to help make sure your professional and personal life stay unconnected and sites like that won't be able to find you. It's also illegal for employers to use sites like my old employer's to determine if they will hire you so most won't. Last, to the person who said a wig won't help, totally depends on the wig.

Who said sex is shameful? Sex is about human connection. Abusing that and degrading one's own humanity by turning it into a paid commodity is something that lots of people are never going to be okay with. I thought we aspired, as a society, to move beyond women having to find worth only in their sexual availability.
In any case, from a practical standpoint, the OP asked if this could damage her future employability as a nurse, and the answer that, like it or not, is yes.

Look, I was a total freak in my single days! But she knows she wants to be a nurse & nursing is saturated with new grads not able to get jobs for months. Why make it more difficult for herself? And even if she wears a wig it's still her face, her features. I'm sure hiring managers can put two & two together.
Kinda hard to not treat her like the whore of Babylon when that's what she's acting like. Because she is OH so proud of what she does. Even in my younger years I NEVER did that! If she wants to make good money then maybe she should stick to being a cam girl & not get into nursing. Because her past could come back to haunt her.
Whoa. Saying that she's acting like a whore is taking a bit too far. All opinions have a right to be heard, but that doesn't mean that there's no holding back. Please have some tact

I'm still an unabashed weirdo in my thirties. I was a Thespian in high school, and loved theatre as a hobby all my life. I've come out of make up in a wig and had my dear friends not recognize me in person. It's actually pretty easy to do. In fact, I think there is a buzz feed article on what Media stars look like without their make up. Check it out.
