So, I'm a Nursing Student and recently in addition to my waitressing job, I started doing like camgirl stuff online. Do you think I could be fired as a RN in the future? Or it could come up in a background check and hinder my employment majorly? I've made over $400 on the camming website so I'm required to file taxes eventually and I guess I'm just scared I could lose my RN license one day. I just don't want anything to jeopardize my dream but I also would like to be able to stay in school so I can reach it. I realize now I jumped into this head first before really thinking of the consequences, but now I need to decide to continue doing it or stopping.
I guess any general advice would be wonderful to ease (or fuel) my anxiety. Thank you!
OP - I'm not in any way shaming you or making a judgment on your work. So please read this understanding I'm trying to help you.
I used to be a news reporter; I did it for a long time. You would be amazed what I can find about a person on the Internet. The Internet not only never dies, it is a snoop's (or journalist's or HR rep's) best friend. There are many, many ways to find your image on the Internet. If I have your picture, I can find other photos of you on the Internet. Lots of people have found out the hard way that the Internet is not as anonymous as they thought, and some have lost jobs, professional school admissions, etc., over it.
Companies are interested in their "image," and employees are the face of their image. They *may* consider you a negative image to the company if they match your face to your cam girl work. And it is possible to do that, especially with the right software.
Again, this is not judgment; it's just reality. The job market is employer-friendly, not job seeker-friendly. There are many applicants for a given position, and having just even a minimal negative impression is enough to get passed over in favor of the next person, who has no such negatives. Whether it's fair or not, there are a lot of people who consider stripping/adult entertainment to be a negative thing.
Another thing to consider is the required work history on applications. If you choose to not list your cam girl work, what will a potential employer will think if they see from your background check that you worked for ABC Contractors for x years but failed to note that on your application's work history? It may make them curious...at which point they Google ABC Contractors...you see where I'm going with this.
So, it's really up to you to decide whether the risk is worth the benefit. Best of luck to you, whatever you choose.
I'm already in Nursing School first off, why would I waste all the loans and year I've been in my program become a CNA? Or do you mean for the summer? B/c I've applied and haven't heard back honestly. I'm passionate about sex education, women's health, and sexual trauma nursing c: As much as I loved working at my geriatrics clinical, I could not see myself being happy as a geriatric nurse.
If you like trauma nursing see if you can be a PCT in your ER. Just stop with the cam girl stuff.
Ok, I'm having trouble editing my above comment, so here's my other thought:
If you decide to continue camming, can you disguise your face in some way? Perhaps make it part of your routine? That would make it harder to link real-life you and on-camera you.
As for the CNA/PCT thing, many of us have done or are doing that during nursing school. It's good experience, decent pay, and a foot in the door for a job after school. There's nothing like hands-on experience.
your question touches on 2-3 different bodies. Licensure, (BON) and HR for hiring. Background checks typically don't reveal prior places of employment, so I highly doubt something like that would show up on a bg check at all. Additionally, I doubt this line of work would bar you from applying for licensure with the board of nursing. When applying, the application process is relatively straightforward
1. basic info
2. ever been arrested?
3. if you were arrested, when?
4. did you kill a man in the process?
5. shut up and give me your money
other than that, any dubious or questionable behavior is often left unnoticed unless someone or something brings it to the BONs attention.
NOW--Hiring and HR on the other hand..
HR are very fickle bodies. Anything can set them off and have them throw your resume/application in the trash without giving it a second thought. This could very well be one of those things. But honestly, I really dont see any of this being an issue unless you LITERALLY end up "cam'ing" for someone that works at the hospital or worked for your states BONs (talk about unlucky odds then huh)
so with a fair degree of certainty, with regards to your question about barring licensure and hindering hiring, unless something goes horribly (illegally) wrong..
Short answer, No.
Long answer, No....but.....

Pretty much the best answer yet

Bolding is mine... I'm not being snarky about this, honest. Reality is if OP is looking at this strictly from a wage point of view I absolutely guarantee that even if she was among the lowest paid of the camgirls she would still be making a boatload more than a CNA. After all, sex sells.
Other than the money aspect, the rest are very good points.
If the OP wants to degrade herself for a few dollars (I recall her saying she made $400 bucks, lol) let her. I would NEVER do such a thing. Not so much from what others might say or think, but what my family would think of me. The disappointment & anger they would feel I could never live it down.
Even worse, what if a family member, neighbor, or a close friend were to stumble upon the site???? What happens then???
Honey, if you are going to risk it all, AT LEAST get paid for it. I hope that $400 bucks was made in 2 hrs. If that's all you are getting, the jokes on you....

least helpful response yet. Neither the OP nor the posters care for your judgmental opinion on how the OP makes her money to get through school. None of that is what the OP asked for.
Also, nobody "stumbles" on these sites. If you go on there, you know why you were there. There aint no "wrong turns" on the internet when it comes to this kind of stuff. So if your "family member, neighbor, or a close friend" was on there, it wasn't an accident honey.
And lastly, even if that $400 was made in a 12 hour session or over the course of 12 hours, that comes out to about $33/hr. And I highly doubt it took that long to rack that up. So I think the jokes on anyone but her as far as compensation goes.

Yup. I can honestly say I have never "stumbled" upon a cam girl website. Maybe all the people claiming you can are closet pervs. 😅😅😅😅😅
