HELP: How Extensive Are Hiring Background Checks?

Published

So, I'm a Nursing Student and recently in addition to my waitressing job, I started doing like camgirl stuff online. Do you think I could be fired as a RN in the future? Or it could come up in a background check and hinder my employment majorly? I've made over $400 on the camming website so I'm required to file taxes eventually and I guess I'm just scared I could lose my RN license one day. I just don't want anything to jeopardize my dream but I also would like to be able to stay in school so I can reach it. I realize now I jumped into this head first before really thinking of the consequences, but now I need to decide to continue doing it or stopping.

I guess any general advice would be wonderful to ease (or fuel) my anxiety. Thank you!

least helpful response yet. Neither the OP nor the posters care for your judgmental opinion on how the OP makes her money to get through school. None of that is what the OP asked for.

Also, nobody "stumbles" on these sites. If you go on there, you know why you were there. There aint no "wrong turns" on the internet when it comes to this kind of stuff. So if your "family member, neighbor, or a close friend" was on there, it wasn't an accident honey.

And lastly, even if that $400 was made in a 12 hour session or over the course of 12 hours, that comes out to about $33/hr. And I highly doubt it took that long to rack that up. So I think the jokes on anyone but her as far as compensation goes.

Judgement??? I haven't said anything that hasn't already been said by other posters. Scholarships, financial aid, and taking out a small student loan could help with cost.

Doesn't matter if a person "stumbled" upon her site as I stated, or in your words "aint no wrong turns on the internet when it comes to this kind of stuff." If people want to search/surf the web for sex shows, it's not illegal. However, what if her father, an uncle, church member, another student or future co-worker/patient sees her? Those videos and sex shows she's doing online can easily be recorded and downloaded to another site that host Media, sex shows, etc.

$400 bucks to do live sex shows online & talking to strangers adds up to chump change. Honestly, I feel embarrassed for her for even saying that's what she made so far. Hell, she could start a "go fund me" account online and could get that money while she slept.

So you don't realize that you're passing judgement on someone's life you know VERY LITTLE about? And because you say that others have said it, you feel as if it's okay to add insult to injury? That sounds very cowardly, and for that, honestly I feel embarrassed for you. The OP couldn't care less what you feel about her choice, she just wanted her question answered and you couldn't even do that simple task.

We've come a long way, baby.

Last time I checked, this was a public forum full of strangers. Who mentioned anything about her "caring", about what I thought? If you don't like the way I worded MY comment, SO WHAT.

The OP is well aware of scholarships, financial aid, loans, working extra shifts and saving money. She is also aware of the issues she would face if exposed. Posters have done a good job stating this. As I said, if she wants to continue to degrade herself, have sex online and can only make $400 or even $4,000 dollars----let her. What parent would be proud? Employers have fired people for a lot less. If she keeps it up, it can damage her personal and professional life.

No judging here. This is the world we live in. Like it or not. It is what it is.

Have a good night!

quite the contrary, you literally echoed ALL the judgmental posts that preceded you, except to top it off, you offered NO advice whatsoever, just prattled on about how ashamed you'd be and unknowingly admitted how you value what everyone else thinks of you, which i found to be quite amusing. At any rate, its clear that you're going to be..ahem.."straightminded" about your opinion of this, and your reply is riddled with so much nonsense that i wont even begin to try to dissect your argument nor will i respond henceforth.

I do however wanna say, "adds up to chump change"?? seriously? haha let me see you find $33/hr as a CNA.:roflmao:

I may make 1/3 of that as a CNA, but at least my dignity and future employability are intact.

And now I've discovered one more thing to warn my daughter about before she leaves for college....thanks for that at least.

different strokes for different folks ? If keeping your dignity intact is worth making $11/hr then thats fine, that works for you, and thats okay. But the OP does not feel indignation in what she's doing, even though the lot of you feel that she should. She doesn't mind what she's doing, and she's getting paid well. So for her, its a win-win. No need to shame her if she's not ashamed.

This is the last im going to say about this specific topic because its starting to veer of course from anything having to do with the OPs original question. Many of you all seem to think that she will be blacklisted by every single hospital, healthcare facility and the like all across the country. If for whatever reason her hometown hospital doesn't want her, she can easily move away. That article doesn't quite apply to the OP because that woman in the article was quite well known. Plus we have no idea what else played a factor in her not being able to maintain a job. She can say it was because she was a former Media star all she wants but who knows, she really may have just sucked at her job?

The point is, glass houses. And different strokes for different folks. If you feel some kind of indignation by merely reading this, and fear for the chastity of the world, thats your prerogative. But not everyone shares the same belief system you do, and not many people are bothered and mortified by the things you are and aren't willing to do. Heck, isn't that why we have specialties in nursing ? There are something's out there people are okay with and others think "heck no i could never in a million years." The OP is well aware of the risk she runs, and is moreso now informed about it.

With that said could we please refrain from treating her like the whore of babylon ?

Kinda hard to not treat her like the whore of Babylon when that's what she's acting like. Because she is OH so proud of what she does. Even in my younger years I NEVER did that! If she wants to make good money then maybe she should stick to being a cam girl & not get into nursing. Because her past could come back to haunt her.

Except that it's not a win for her if it keeps her from having the career she ultimately wants, which is the fear she came here to express.

These conversations she has can absolutely be recorded, and most likely have been already. They will then be distributed interpersonally and possibly (probably) posted on Media sites, without further compensation to her. No reputable organization will want to hire someone who pops up in their search engine as a Media actress. Thinking further into the future, also, has she considered 20 years from now when her kid's classmate says, hey, I saw your mom on this website....?

What goes on the internet lasts forever. And ever.

oh give it a rest. I have quite a few friends that have stripped their way through grad school and med school. Not nearly as uncommon as one would think. That is not at all what defines you as a person, or as a HCP. To quote one of my favorite movies, "you are not your job, or how much money you have in the bank."

Keep fearing the reaper. Bottom line though is unless someone as aforementioned is recording these sessions, waits until she graduates, and hands it to every hospital in her general area, or she ends up accidentally camming for someone important who later on recognizes her at her place of work, or during an interview, the chances of this ending negatively are minimal. Existent, but minimal.

your paranoia of the internet is astonishing. I would have no idea what any of my friends' moms would look like 20 years ago even if they handed me a picture to compare. you cant be serious with that :roflmao:

"hey man, i found some 20 year old Media and some of it looks like your mom, is this her ?"

If you're going to compare med school & nursing, doctors get away with a lot more than nurses do. Ok, I got fired AND blacklisted from a job because I sent ONE nude photo of myself to a former boyfriend. Then he sent them out. I got to work that day & I was called into my NM office she she told me all these people had my picture & I was walked off of the premises & they took my badge. That was FIVE years ago & I will never be able to work for them EVER again.

So yes. If they find nude photos of her, she will have a difficult time landing a job or if she gets a job then they find out after the fact she could lose her job. They can run picture searches as well as name searches. You never know what other people are doing other the other side of the camera.
