Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

It is really cool. I will do the body challenge and go to Ballys for free. I just can not pass that chance.

Jess, I didn't notice any Holiday menus, probably because I started after the holidays. But several articles talk about the evil word........moderation. :)

RN in 3, Kiyatylese, Kat, I highly recommend yoga. I wouldn't recommend it as the only form of fitness, unless, like Madonna you can hire a private trainer and practice many hours a day.

Renee, it's good to hear your being enthused!

Kat, good luck with WW. I know what you mean about needed structure. Also the support is good. An old high school buddy of mine loss 100 lbs. and now teaches the class.

Hi Sarah!

I'm at work. I was able to stick to my plan. I ate a SB tv dinner, which was actually good chicken and green beans and less than 300 calories. I did scarf down two Zone bars because I left my snacks at home.

Tweety, I am all ready to start my healthy eating again on the 1st. I signed up for both sites earlier posted and am ready. Tomorrow will be my last day of sin! ;)

Good luck Jess. Enjoy your day of "sin". I know I sure did right before my diet, and have the three pounds I gained that last week to prove it. :)

I'm going to go back to Weight Watchers next week. I used to do aerobics until I threw my back out some time ago and am a bit afraid to do those again but I did love them. I'm looking into buying some tapes to use at home to get moving with.

Hello again and Happy New Year to Everyone!

I'm back.

I was absent for awhile because I was dealing with some depression. Most of it was situational. But it totally threw me and I started binging, sleeping a lot--or not at all, and writing.

Up till then, I thought I had a handle on "stress."

Long story short, the end result was that I gained a few pounds, got a little more out of shape, discovered a couple of new ways to deal with my "stuff", had a few happier realizations (such as "I am not powerless in this or any situation" and "Funny how you are always growing in your nursing practice, isn't it?"), and bought a new bike.

I went for a (very short!) ride and I'm very pleased with my selection. I'm hoping to improve my stamina and mobility. Of course, even that little bit got my heart rate up, so that was a plus. And I sure enjoyed having the wind in my hair and getting a birds-eye view of all the lovely homes in my area as well.

I feel tons better and hope you all had a wonderful Christmas (or whichever holiday you celebrate)! :)

Hi everyone - I made it through about 13 pages of posts before I decided to skip to the end ;) I would like to join your thread. I joined Weight Watchers back in June and until the holidays rolled around had lost 36#. Well, I haven't been to WW the whole month of December (part of that was due to stress of finals!) and my meeting is closed on 1/2/06. I have told myself - with no hesitation - January 1 is back to the program for me - and the exercise. I have dropped it all! The good news is that the jeans that I have been able to get in since I lost the 36# still fit - but I am AFRAID of the scale!

Anyway, since I am on here frequently anyway, it will be a nice place to give/receive encouragement to get back on this life style change. I made a promise to myself that by the time my nursing program orientation rolled around in July of '06 I was going to be at goal. This sounds vain, but when I am fitted for uniforms, I want to be comfortable with my size. I have 35-40# to go, depending on how much damage I've done this month. I think that is doable in 7 months.

Got some good recipes that I will share when I have more time. I am getting ready to baby-sit my nieces (3 & 18mohs) so my brother can go out for New Years Eve. We are having pizza and chips for dinner ;) January 1 isn't here yet!!

Welcome Back Angie. So glad you're back and feeling better. We were talking a bit about how emotion health affects physical. Good luck.

Traci, thanks for joining. I was hoping we'd get some new people in the thread with the new new. Congrats on the initial weight loss. Good luck in getting back to it. :)
