Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

Kiyatylese, that is awesome congratulations!

Steph, I was/am the same way. Everytime I started a diet, it was "I'll restart tomorrow instead, I can't today". Which is why I picked a day in the future a few weeks ago and stuck to it. The diet I choose is class Glycemic Impact Diet. Here's the description. It's similar I think to the Zone or South Beach. The idea is to eat meals to keep blood glucose levels from being too high or too low, and to each often to keep your metablism going. Women have a lower caloric intake on this diet I believe. We'll see when I weight in on Monday what the verdict is. I like that fact that I haven't been too hungry, and they make up a diet for you and if you follow it you stay within their caloric restrictions and the carb/protein/fat ratio and the guesswork is taken out of it. There are lots of other diets you can pick on ediets, this is just the one that suits me. (Now I sound like a commercial)

Daily Calories: 1500-1600

To help reach your goals, your calculated calorie level for Weight Loss is 1500-1600 daily calories on your Glycemic Impact Diet™ meal plan.

Meal - Calories

Morning 375 - 425

Afternoon 475 - 525

Afternoon Snack 75 - 125

Evening 475 - 525

Late Night Snack 75 - 125

Nutritional Guidelines:

Our Glycemic Impact Diet provides the optimal balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fat. Approximately 30% of the calories are from lean protein sources, 30% from healthy fat, including mainly unsaturated fat in nuts, oils and fish, and approximately 40% of calories are from unrefined carbohydrates -- whole grains and whole-grain breads, fruits and vegetables.

Kiya, congratulations!

Tweety, does your meal plan have a choice for holiday meals as well?

Ok, I just came back from my week 4 weigh in at WW. I have lost 13.6 LBS sofar. :roll I have never lasted this long on any kind of diet. Which I don't want to call this a diet. I have changed my lifestyle. I control my portion size and I do not snack on sweets anymore. I even got my mom in Germany to do it with me. She just calls me every day and tells me what she plans to eat and I tell her the points for everything. It is fun.

I want to try Yoga. I have never done that. I think it would be stress relieving. I need to get my mind of reality. At least for that one yoga hour.

CONGRATS! I will oficially start my diet AFTER we get back from vacation so the second week of January. Figured, even as fat as I am, that there is no sense on setting myself up to fail yet again since I do not plan on cooking the entire 3 days :lol2: .

I really want to try yoga too. My 12 year old daughter was a gynmast up until August and she is so flexable but is loosing it since she no longer works out 12 hours a week. I think it would be a great mother daughter activity even though she doesn't need it for weight loss - she a stick! If she didn't look so much like me I would think I brought the wrong baby home from the hospital!

Thank you for the support.

You know, I got the idea from Madona. I have watched the interview where they asked her how she gets fit. She said that it is only Yoga. I looked on Amazon website and they have a Yoga DVD that is suited for overweight people, where they use pillows for support. You know usually yoga is for all those little people that can move in all kind of directions :lol2: . I am not like that, that why I think I will get that DVD.

Greetings sibs!

It feels so good to finally say that I am taking control of my life with God at the helm of my life directing me through the Holy Spirit one step at a time. icon14.gif

Yesterday evening was my second time this week walking on the treadmill at the gym where my dd goes for her workouts. I walked a little over three miles last night in the one hour I spent on the treadmill. I talked the entire hour to my newly assigned Personal Trainer. She told me I was doing great for not having worked out much in ten years or more. :D She said I didn't have any problem TALKING while working out...without getting winded...and that's a very good sign that I'm on my way to a healthy physical recovery. :D

My P.T. (Personal Trainer) will make out a personal workout plan for me when I go on Tuesday of next week. I'm soooooooo EXCITED! :lol2:

Wow you guys - everybody is doing so awesome! Congrats! Great job! Those of you that are not happy with how things are going - I feel your pain and wish you the best of luck. The best thing to do is quit procrastinating and do something - anything - to make yourself feel better. :D I am a horrible procrastinator, but once I really got started, I feel so good I want to keep it up.

Sorry I am in such a hurry today - talk to y'all later - hope everyone has a great day!!!

Wow, good for you. I'm going to a introductory meeting at WW tonight with my hairdresser. I tried this on my own and obviously need some structure.

I have 2 yoga videos for beginners. They're 20 minutes long and one is for morning and one is for night. They don't feel like beginner stuff though I can do most of the moves just not as well as the instructors.
