Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....
Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)
QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?
I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....
Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????
Angie, I am sorry about the depression. You are such a strong woman so it's just a bump on the road. Glad to have you back.
Traci, Welcome aboard!
I have been away for a few days as I have been miserable with the flu. I am feeling a tad better today but not at all peachy.
I started making healthier choices as promised myself yesterday. I am determined to knock the stubborn pounds off!

I'm sure you'll succeed, Jess. You've done wonderfully with your goals. I really admire you.
On another note, I'm just throwing this thought out to all of you today:
I saw Margaret Cho the other night. Even though her show was definitely shocking to me, I found that her parallel of foot binding in Asia, genital mutilation in Third World nations and plastic surgery for beauty's sake in the US, had a big nugget of truth to it.
What do we think of as "beauty"? Must we mutilate ourselves, must we suffer to achieve it? What is the difference between all those cultural conceptions of "beauty"? All of them are painful changes to our bodies that we make to satisfy a cultural ideal.
Any thoughts?
Anyhow, that food for thought is at least very low-cal.
Thanks Zoe. That was very tweet of you.
Jess, I'm sorry to hear that you are ill, I hope you're on the mend and best wishes with the healthy eating.
Angie, I love Margaret Cho (I'm gay, duh), and yes her "free speech" is very obscene, but she also has a bottom line sometimes that does indeed make you think through the laughter.
Isn't it funny how in those cultures and primarily in this culture it's the women who torture their bodies for beauty? (Gay men, however being an exception as they have fueld the plastic surgery industry for males for a long time, with lipo and muslcle implants, etc. although str8 men have picked up on that trend in recent years?).
I wish that we could just let inner beauty shine.

Amen
Then we would save us all the hassle.
Today was weigh in day and I lost five pounds!!!???!!!
I didn't quite believe it at the gym scale so I went to Publix and their scale which is highly accurate, said the same thing!
Woot! I'm sure I had a lot of water weight from bad eating and salty foods the week of Christmas. But I am encouraged and will stick with this plan.

Congratulation Tweety! That is quite some weight in a little time. I am glad the plan is working :kiss

Woot, Tweety. And you were unsure about any weight loss at all.
Thanks Jess. So now I'm at the overweight weight I was at prior to Thanksgiving.
I just went to weigh myself but who knows.........I fluctuate daily...LOL
Now it's TOM, so I am sure there is some water weight........hehehe
I went to the store this morning and loaded on fresh veggies. The thing is that I have no taste at te moment, so soup is best for now.
I am not going to give up either.
I have never been one to drink water, in fact I am ashamed to say I never drink it and when I say never, I'm serious! However as part of my efforts to get healthy and loose weight I have started to drink it and I CAN'T STAY OUT OF THE BATHROOM . Someone please tell me that eventually this water will stop running right through me.
Oh, and I have started eating breakfast too. Something else that I hardly ever do. Its really hard for me to eat in the mornings, gotta rev up that metabolism though.
I hope everyone is haveing a great new year so far.
Tweety, great job on the weight loss

Hi Tweetie! :blushkiss
Your sweet support lends strength to my back, ya know that? I really really appreciate how you just put an arm across my shoulders and affectionally punch my arm, like a big bro who is always there. I see you doing this all over the board and it is just delightful!
