Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

WooHoo arciedee - how cool! That will be awesome motivation and I'm sure you will look absolutely incredible in your new wedding dress!!! And when do you need to look incredible by??? :D

Thanks! We haven't set a date yet, but we're thinking spring/summer (trying to work this around two pregnant friends). Plenty of time, really, but I'd like to get a bit more in shape before I even go shopping.

Yummy Tweety - that sounds great! A blueberry sounds fantastic right now!!! BTW - I loooooove the cartoon!!! :D

Hi everybody - and welcome all who have joined since I last was here.

I feel like I've been gone a whole century - I don't think 3-day weekends are good for me :rotfl:

I was bad on new years and ate both pie and brownies - oops. Oh well - we'll try this again - back on track today (er . . . so far anyway). ;)

It seems that everyone has come through the new year for the most part unscathed - good job everybody!!! Welcome 2006!

Jess - I am pre-TOM :chuckle and craving everything in sight - yuck! I hate this part. :(

I eat anything chocolaty in sight ;)

Sounds wonderful arciedee - love that time of year anyway!!! A spring/summer wedding will be beautiful! :)

Thanks Tweety! It's good to be back!

LOL Jess - no kidding - and the girls at the daycare next door had the nerve to bring over cake this morning - CAKE - aaaaargh! So far I have avoided it though - but boy is it taking all my willpower today. :rotfl:

I'm back, post-holiday... definitely some healthier living plans here! With a new motivation... need to fit into a wedding dress! Okay, fitting into one won't be a problem, just the vanity of wanting to look absolutely smashing. Sometimes my Leo pride can be a good thing. :chuckle

I think that a workout plan will be the most important order of business. The scale reading is pretty stable, but I can feel the pants getting a little more snug as muscle gives way to a bit of pudge. Would like things to feel loose again. So, onward we go!

OOOOoo, A WEDDING!!

Details, details, please!! What are your colors? Indoors or out? Big or small?

Good morning!

Well - a piece of pumpkin strudle (sp?) came into the office today - so I just had to try that. :imbar: Oops - being bad already. Oh well - I shall contain myself for the rest of the day and that will just be my carbs for the day. I will go attack the veggies this evening.

How is everybody doing?

Good morning!

Sarah, I doubt I could have resisted a taste of pumpkin strudel, I've never had that before. I do hope when stuff like that is around I can have a very tiny bit instead of a huge piece. That's my goal anyway, to show restraint and portion control.

I'm on day 10 of the diet and I'm still sticking to it. I may have to change my menu for today because for some reason there is tomato at every meal and snack. Even breakfast was toasted cheese and tomatoes. It's a computer generated plan so there must have been a glitch in today. But I love tomatoes. Fortunately they grow year around here. Today's lunch called for an open faced burger and I through caution to the wind and added another piece of whole grain on top and had a sandwich. Who can eat a cheeseburger as an open-faced sandwich anyway???

I also was good and went to the gym and worked out.

Thanks for all your well-wishes everyone. No details yet, but I'm sure I'll have plenty of updates as we go along.

I was absolutely appalled upon stepping on the scale this morning. I don't know quite how it got to where it is. FH and I agreed that the scale was being plain mean. :uhoh21: Grr. In good news, however, I did do a workout DVD last night and I can feel the muscles today. It's a great feeling really. Might do a mini workout tonight before I tackle some cleaning around the house that desperately needs to be done.

Sarah, I probably would have tried the pumpkin strudel, too, if for no other reason than I've never had it before and it sounds interesting! Don't dwell on it and just concentrate on eating well the rest of the day. :saint:

Tweety, portion control is a big part of weight control, I think. Weird that your menu for today calls for so many tomatoes. Do you get a new menu every day or is it weekly or... ?? Sounds like you're doing well there. Keep it up friend!

I love tomatoes - more than any fruit or vegetable.

So far so good on the Atkins jump start. I spent some time talking with my husband this morning too. We both did very badly on our diet during the holidays and he is diabetic, has high bp and high cholesterol. He has also started changing the way he eats. And he actually used the treadmill. I told him that he cannot rely on the meds to control his problems and he said he wasn't - the doc told him that he could very easily take charge of this by dieting and losing weight. In fact, he could get to the point where he wouldn't need drugs. Also, if his diabetes gets to the point where he needs insulin, he cannot be a truck driver. The DMV is kinda funny about that -

So, I have hickory smoked turkey and sharp cheddar cheese for breakfast. Trying not to use eggs and meat so very much - Atkins is hard in that you are pretty limited in choice . .

I'll probably transition back to SouthBeach after the two weeks of Atkins. It was a way more doable diet - lots more veggies and fruit.

Keep up the good work everyone and remember to be kind to yourself. We are only human afterall.
