Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

Tomorrow--Thursday is my new Weight Watcher day.:stone

Gonna get weighed in and start my new life.

Exercise videos are all ready as well. When school starts again on Monday, have to figure out when I get my new schedule, when will be the best time--get up early before school or after school. Also will be working (hopefully) as soon as the hospital straightens out all my paperwork and such. :stone

Congrats on a new start, Suzy! :balloons: Have you done Weight Watchers before? I've heard that it works well for a lot of people, so I'm wishing you the best of luck. I rarely have good luck with getting up early to do workouts, I'm better at doing them as soon as I get home... but that's just me. Not that I dislike mornings, just that my willpower to drag myself out of a warm bed is usually lacking. Definitely try to schedule time for workouts. I find a written schedule helps, treating it as an appointment or class or whatever. Keep us posted!

Steph, glad to hear that the Atkins jump start is going well. And glad that your husband seems to be taking initiative to boost his health as well! Keep it up! And thanks for the "only human" reminder. We are often our own harshest critics.

arciedee, I get an eating plan once a week. I have the option of changing the menus if I don't like what's there, or have the stuff at home. I print them out along with the recipes. I didn't realize there were so many tomatoes on today's. :) I was busy tonight and cooked a curry chicken for tomorrow's lunch and salmon for tonight's supper (baked with parm. cheese, onion and lemon, it is soooo good). I enjoy cooking, but school starts up Monday and I have to figure out some shortcuts, even though the menus are not that time consuming. I got some South Beach tv dinners for times when I don't cook.

arciedee, I remember getting on the scale the day after Christmas at the gym and not believing what I saw. I was so in denial I went to the grocery store and used their scale, which of course showed a weight I'd never been in my life.

Steph. good luck. Sounds like your husband could be at a crucial point in his life. I wish him and you well.

Suzy, I will you well and hope you continue to share your ups and downs with us.

Yum, Tweety, the curry chicken sounds wonderful! I too am trying to think of shortcuts for school time. Today I stocked up on yogurt, granola, cheese, fresh fruit, precut veggies and protien bars. I think I will write out a meal plan for during the week. I plan on making good use of the crock pot for school.

Sounds like everyone is off to a great start! Suzy, congrats on the WW, great progam! Steph, I think it is great you and hubby are working together, I know how crucial the support is, hopefully he sees how good you do and you give him the help he needs to get things under control. Best wishes going out to you.

Arcidee, that first step is the hardest, and you did it!!! I remember going to the doctors office, getting off the scales that I had avoided for oh so long and sitting down in the waiting room in tears. It was a huge wake up call in my life. Welcome and you are going to do great!

wow, it is so good to see so many of us starting our healthy journeys this year!

Good luck to all of you!

I had lemon and basil grilled chicken and broccoli at Marie Callendar's tonight. DH had the soup and salad. DD has salmon and then ordered chocolate cheesecake! The 4 year old had grilled cheese.

I was really craving popcorn but didn't do it.

Keep going everyone.

Lori, good luck to you. I love to cook, but finding the time to do everything I like to do and study is the challenge. But broiled and baked stuff is pretty easy, and some frozen veggies on the side.

Steph, keep up the good work. If I had a daughter that age, I'd be thrilled if she ate cheesecake, so many young girls don't eat. Even college age girls. I see the BSN students where I work, they are bone thin and drinking a slim fast or eating a Lean Cuisine. Seems like there's extremes today, obesity is rampant in children, but there's so much pressure on teen and young girls/women to be ultra thin.

Hi Jess, hope you're feeling better. Good luck to you too!

My plan called for a whole cup of cottage cheese and lots of berries and melon. Yummy! And 8 macadamia nuts, which I love. It's cute me counting out each nut. But that's what I need right now, portion control, knowing what and how much to eat. :)

Thanks Tweety!

Steph, I love popcorn too. I buy the light version in the mini packs and have them at home for snacking. You'd be surprised how little calories it has without compromising the taste!

Good morning~

I'm waiting for daylight so I can go for my little bike ride. I really like this bike--the fit is great, the seat's comfy--but it's quite a lot faster than my old one, so now I'm covering a lot more ground. Happily we have lots of places to go around here.

I'm figuring out the safest routes. These drivers aren't too good at avoiding cyclists.

So call me a thrill-seeker if you will, it gets my metabolism up there, even with the beta-blocker on board. ;)

That sounds like fun. It's too cold here for that. Besies with all the snow and freezing rain on the sidewalk and roads, I'd do more slipping and sliding than riding.......hehe

Have a jolly ride!

Tweety, the menu plan sounds interesting. I find those sorts of things helpful at times. Though it is funny to think of you meticulously counting out 8 macadamia nuts!

Hi Lori... I actually step on the scale pretty regularly, was just bummed to see that it had gone up. Though not surprised as the clothes were beginning to feel more snug. Oh well, been pretty good the past couple days on food and am planning a workout tonight.

Steph, is Marie Callendar's a restaurant out there? I've seen the frozen dinners at the grocery store, but didn't realize it was a restaurant, too. Popcorn is actually a whole grain food... though I suppose if you're doing Atkins it's probably a no-no regardless.

Angie, good for you on the bike riding! I like outdoors exercise, but it's hard this time of year since it gets light after I leave for work and dark before I get home. Plus the roads are snow-covered, which makes walking and biking treacherous! FH does want to get me into skiing, though, and maybe snowshoeing, too... as long as my feet and hands stay warm, sounds fun to me!

Jess, guess we should stick to ice skating!

I'm a klutz at skating, won't make it past the floor :lol2:
