Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

I'm feeling much better today so decided to beat the snow and head to the grocery store. Got me lots of kiwi's, fresh fruits and veggies too. I am ready to eat healthy again...................yay!

After all the 'heavier' food I've had over the last month or so, I'm looking forward to a nice lighter meal, salads, etc.

I'm so glad to hear that everyone is off to such a great start.

I'm doing pretty good so far too although I keep craving mexican food. Chips with that yummy white sauce, nacho cheese and salsa. It's about to drive me crazy, I was thinking about how good some would be at 7:30 this morning. I haven't indulged though, I keep telling myself that I have to be good.

Tweety, cottage cheese and fruit sounds so good. I think that I will go to the store and buy some. I haven't had any in a long time.

I have to go to the store anyway and stock up on some things so that I will have the things I need in my house and not have to run back and forth to the store every couple of days once school starts back up.

Arciedee, congrats on your engagement.

Thanks guys - the pumpkin thing really was good and I did eat right the rest of the day.

LOL on the tomato thing Tweety - I love tomatoes and would love a tomato-filled diet! :rotfl: Hope you at least enjoyed it :chuckle

Well - as usual, our office is hoppin' again - hope y'all have a great day!

I know what you mean. My husband is Mexican and loves his tortilla chips, salsa, dips, cheeses etc.....so I can't stop buying them. It's more of a challenge when cooking for him............he works very hard in contruction therefore I can't feed him diet food............lol

Sometimes we sit at the dinner table and I just want to trade foods........:rotfl:

I agree, Jess and Suzy, veggies and fruits are sounding much more appealing now. The other day all I wanted for dinner was a big bowl of salad (got it, too!).

Princess74, thank you! Mexican food, mmm. Had the best Mexican meal the other day... Wasn't expecting it to be that good (it was a local chain we'd only stopped at because the roads were bad and we wanted to get off them so the salt trucks could do their work) but we both loved our meals. We left stuffed!

Sarah, see, we knew you'd do great! I like tomatoes too, but too many of them can give me an upset tummy if I try to exercise after eating them (must be the acid or something).

LOL - Jess, I know what you mean. My husband is not hispanic, but we live in a predominantly hispanic area and we both love real, home-made Mexican food. That does make it hard. There Mickey sits eating a yummy burrito smothered in green chili and all the toppings - all made from scratch of course - and I sit in front of my salad. :( He is like your man too - hard manual labor, so he needs the calories and everything to keep him going. Makes me sick - he eats like a horse and is skinny as a rail. :p

Thanks arciedee. :)

Congrats on everyone who is able to avoid the cravings - that is awesome! You are all doing so well - keep up the good work - you guys are all my motivation!!!

Don't you just want to knock him with the salad plate? :chuckle

I best part is when he looks at me and says "You can't have any of this.............you're on a diet, eat your greens" :angryfire

Hi everyone. I thought I would pop in and get to know everyone. I am starting a healthier lifestyle this week. I used to work out 4-5 times a week, but somehow last semester's AP I swallowed up all of my time. I'm getting myself back into the gym and also giving in and going vegetarian ( 90% of my family is vegetarian). I needed to make a change and there is no time like the present. I want to go from Heavy living to Healthy living. :D :D :D

LOL! Yes - I get: "That's not on your diet," shortly followed by, "Now don't say anything when you eat that and it makes you sick - I don't want to hear about it." (This is because I've been off the carbs so long now that if I do splurge, they make me physically ill.) :rotfl: Yes - I'm thinking salad plate knocking sounds like a good plan!!!

Welcome Nursecadet - happy healthfulness!!! :D

Hi Nursecadet, I hope you continue to come often and share your tips. I was a vegetarian for 12 years up until a couple of years ago. I have all kinds of cook books. Just the other day I said to myself when I go off this current plan I'm on, I'm going to up my vegetarian meals.

Michelle, my plan introduced me to those baked toritilla chips, with low fat cheese and salsa......in a very small portion-controlled serving of course. It's the next best thing and when you're hungry, you'll eat it. LOL

Angie, I hope you enjoyed the bikeride. Apparently it's getting a bit chilly down Florida the next few days.

I worked today, but stayed on plan. My curried chicken was good. Tonight it was shrimp salad which was quick and easy to make. Just lettuce, tomato, cukes and shrimp. It was the only meal with tomatoes, but I had raspberries for breakfast and dinner. :)
