Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

I'm trying to avoid the daily weights. I weight the other day and didn't loose anything from the few days prior and was discouraged, so I'm only going to weigh once a week on Mondays.

I decided to give fat free shredded cheese a try and put it on my omlette this morning and it's a no go. YUK. But as I said, when you're hungry you won't waist anything. LOL But it's 2% cheese, which I like. I also found I like the "Light Done Right" salad dressings. But olive oil and red wine or balsamic vinegar make good dressings too.

Good luck this weekend everyone.

OK folks, need some quick info please, and will probably not get through all 47 pgs on this thread.

Does anyone know anything about the South ?Park or ?Plan or something like that diet?

My DD wants to begin it with my DH...Naturally, I'll have to go along with it if I like it or not (both on the pudgy side, but not me). Do I have to stock up on essential food items, or is this something that is reasonable and I won't be eating brown rice and grapefruit until they get sick of it?

South Beach?

I'm not sure. It's south something...just came in and announced "I'm trying this South .....diet, and dad can do it with me. OK? Bye, see you later", and off she went, leaving me with my mouth open.36_19_2.gif

I will obviously get more details later, but i think i'd better get in my stash of chips and hide the ice cream in the bottom of the freezer before those two get hold of it and throw it out. Or it'll be celery sticks or egg whites or tofu or something like that for the next few weeks until they get sick of it. 29_3_15.gifSheesh!

Thanks for responding Angie and Princess....yes, it is the South Beach, DD came home and showed me the book...guess I should read it along with them to make sure this is something I can live with :chuckle. I checked the website and doesn't seem too too bad. :)

Personally, I think I'd like to try this one. It seems pretty wild because there are no real restrictions, except that you MUST eat every three hours. Well, hey, no prob.

(I'm being sarcastic because I'm lucky if I get one lunch in 8 hours of work, let alone TWO breaks to eat!)

Here's another article. This one adds that you're not supposed to eat 3 hours before bedtime. Now it begins to make more sense. There are also some exercises added at the end of the article.

The South Beach Diet is a pretty good one in my opinion. It jumps starts the diet with ultra low carb just like Atkins, but then it parts ways and is more of a low glycemic/low saturated fat kind of diet. I tried to get my parents to go on it.

I also like the idea of eating every three hours. The diet I'm on follows that line of thinking, that I'm not supposed to go 3-4 hours without eating something.

Yeah, I like eating frequent but small meals..............that is the only thing that worked for me in the past.

Ok, I was so intrigued that I picked up the book and some groceries.

Going to start reading now. From what I glanced at in the store, the snacks are very low-cal--like one Oreo cookie.

That makes sense.

Sounds good Angie :)

I am not too much of a sweets fan other than chocolate. My real problem is with food. I live eating food (not junk food per se).

I found that to overcome this somewhat, I snack on a bowl of soup. I usually make my own with chicken breast and fresh veggies, but there are so many canned soups out there with 100 cals or less per serving. I tried progresso chicken noodle with 100 cals and it was satisfying and perfect for those days when you want to eat something warm :p
