Healthcare-related "what the heck?!?!" dreams

Published

Have you ever had a healthcare-related dream that left you saying, "what in the actual ****?!" when you awakened?

Last night, I was a dialysis whore. There was an underground "society" of dialysis patients and normal kidney function people. The normal kidney function patients would sell their time and their blood. I was a normal kidney function person, and I had had an AV fistula placed by some "underground" surgeon. "Regulars" would pay $60-80/hour to get dialyzed. Non-regulars would pay $75-125/hour. It was my first night dialysis whoring, and this girl I knew in junior high was walking me through the basic stuff to know and protect myself. And somehow I was able to dialyzed multiple people in one night. My hubs was supportive of it, knowing we needed it. My parents didn't, though.

Dude. For real. What the ****?!

You have any cray cray in your dreams?

In nursing and grad school I had recurrent dreams that I forgot about a class until the end of the semester and went to class for the first time for the final to see if I could make up my grade. The professor always laughed at me and then I'd wake up all anxious. As a nurse, this dream continued but became the kind where I forgot about one of my patients until the end of the shift and freaked out trying to get stuff done and the patient was always really mad at me.

I'm gonna need someone to interpret this stuff Freudian style for me! I must have control issues or something :bored:

Eerie & weird!!! Just woke up this morning with one of those dreams.

I've been retired 5 years now but my dream was on the floor of my very first unit 40+ years ago. My Mom and I were pts on the same unit at 2 ends of 2 different halls. I went to visit her and she was laying on the floor (fall?). I was trying to wake her with "Mom, Mom" and sternal rubs as she wasn't breathing. She then came around and I went to find the nurses who were having report in the office. Had to politely knock on the closed door.

Funny thing, all the nurses were guys! No gals. I never worked a unit with ALL guys - multiple guys, yes. But not ALL.

So he finally decides to come with me and we go through this huge maze, when we come out the other side we are on a steam boat. Very odd.

I woke up from a dream about one of my favorite singers Mary Chapin Carpenter. [/quote']

OT but has she released any music lately? Haven't heard from her in a million years.

Back to the topic at hand...

Just about every dream I have revolves around work, be it coworkers, patients, equipment, etc., and it's been that way since day one.

My favorite ever, though?

We had a very difficult-to-place patient on our MedSurg floor. (y'all know the type...he couldn't go home and was being refused by every SNF).

I dreamed that he was taken in by my friend's aunt and uncle 700 miles away. In the dream, we went to visit them and there he was, sitting in a chair in his hospital gown, in their living room.

I hate dreaming about work! It's like I'm working during my break for no pay AND things usually are going right down the crapper in the process!

I'm a school nurse so last night's dream featured a fire drill just as the clinic was slammed with about 10 little kids, like first graders. That meant they were my responsibility while I locked up meds & checked 2 playgrounds next to me before exiting the building. The kids were either freaking out or straggling & I was doing a horrible job at herding them out.

By the time we got outside, teachers were in a panic looking for these kids & had even called their parents & police.

Today's planned fire drill went off much more smoothly.

Lol this thread is hilarious!

I work on a surgical onc unit. Some of my dreams involve being at the hospital, thinking about my to-do work list, etc. Today I woke up thinking "I have a patient on CBI, gotta go check on him, maybe irrigation bag needs changing". :p

While I was a student, I consolidated on a rehab mental health unit for pts with schizophrenia who were being rehabilitated into society, having committed a crime (let your imagination run free here, you won't be far off). I had a nightmare that the heavy metal door of the nursing station became inadvertently unlocked, and the pts walked like zombies out of their rooms and into the nursing station to get me.

Yes she has. All her tour dates on on the East Coast for the most part or overseas. Darn.

I always dream that I'm the patient of any particularly traumatic surgery after the fact. Always disturbing to wake up like that.

I had a dream a walked into a room and a resident fell and his arms and legs also fell off. Totally gory, blood everywhere. I didn't know what to do.

I had a dream where I came on shift and all the residents that were standing started collapsing one by one.

I had a dream where I had just crushed a lady's meds and then poured them into the hot tub that happened to be right next to my med cart. I told her to get in, its time for her treatment. She refused. I took off my scrubs and conveniently had a bikini on underneath and jumped in. There was a foreign exchange nurse from Korea that spoke no English already in the hot tub.

And those are only the ones I REMEMBER

Now I am laughing out loud. The kid on the health mat asks "What's so funny?"

Nothin' kid...mind yer biness

I was so scared I posted my dream about the guy with the veins, and I see I haven't. I tend to post in my sleep.

I dream less about work now that I'm out of the hospital.

I do dream about AN, and you all look like your avatars.

when I saw him later in the shift I told him about the dream and he was genuinely mad saying "So in your dream I almost die from a tornado and you can't even call me to warn me when there is a REAL storm!?".

What an odd little duck! "Sorry, that wasn't on the NCLEX." [emoji23]
