Anyone have any good ideas of health topics that I can incorporate to a lesson with a group of high school students once a week?

Wear your seatbelt. Every passenger.
One of my most vivid memories from my time in the ER was "preparing" a teenager's body for his parents to see and hold for the last time; cleaning the blood from his face, nose, mouth, ears, hair, even fingernails...my Pastor was with his parents in the ER because they are members of my church...one car rollover on a curve...no one else was hurt but he was ejected because he was not wearing his seatbelt.

I like self-esteem lessons. I'd pick a guidance counselor's brain on that.

For seniors, I do a lecture on the needs-to-know about taking charge of their own medical care in college and beyond.
Tell them to hold on to their immunization records. I had an employer ask for copy 20 years out of high school.

Is safe sex a possible topic? Dating violence is a great one as well, and possibly less controversial. Emotional intelligence issues are always a need. I also love the suggestion to teach about taking charge of their own healthcare.

Thanks, OD, I just brought my son in to read this. He dislikes his seatbelt and I don't always remind him, because at 13 I assume too much.

LOVE this idea! It is one of my passions to help my high school students learn about the resources available to them.
