Maybe its normal, who knows. I got hired to work per diem in an ICU in Ocala. I was like great, when do I start? Well, they said, we can put you in hospital orientation on Monday but we need you to do a couple of things first...........so a couple of things turns into a COMPLETE physical, done by them. And by complete, I mean they gave me an eye exam, tested my near far and intermediate vision, a complete hearing test for low, moderate and high tones, ear canal exam. A 2 part TB skin test, complete health history, examined all my shot records, my OB records, took my blood pressure in 2 arms, my pulse, and temperature. Wanted to know about all my childhood diseases, ect. Of course they made me pee in a cup for a drug screen. Ok, I think, well that was kind of weird but surely I am done. Nope!! they said, now you go to outpatient and they will draw some blood and do some Xrays. Ok they drew 7 tubes, mostly yellow, to check for all my vaccines in my blood. They also did a complete blood count and complete metabolic profile. I had to take my pants off put a gown on and take 2 chest xrays, one of my back and one of my side. Whoa, surely these people are done.....Nope!! Then I had to come back and go to their Physical therapy center and watch a video on proper lifting, lift 50 or 60 lbs off the ground for them, and sit in this weird muscle chair contraption and push against it while a computer measured the strength in my back. So I passed their strength test thank god, or get this- I would have had to complete strength training before I could work there!! Well I start orientation on Monday and I hope its a little less intense than their "pre-employment process". These people make me feel like I am signing up for the olympics or somethinghttps://allnurses.com/forums/images/smilies/added/bugeyes.gif

Uh, no. I would not want to go through all of that for a job, either.
They took my BP and checked my vision. They accepted the results from my TB test and some bloodwork from labs I had had done about a year prior to getting the job. It was all very lax. Oh, I peed in a cup too, but that is about it.

Not only did I have to pee in the cup, I laughed so hard at the Far Side Cartoon that was posted on the door that I totally missed the cup. Talk about embarrassing...

Pretty much, except my Xrays were of my spine because I have a compressed disk and the $250 doc visit came out of my pocket.

Sounds pretty thorough to me. I would have left them with a "Well did you find anything I should know about?" remark.

Nope, I don't think I would do it for a nursing job. That kind of physical exam sound like is for going into the army.

I think I would have been fine with it all.....did they have you do the TB mask fit test so if you tasted something horrible you know your mask isn't fit properly? Tastes like barf and turpentine.....Not that I'd know or anything....

The hospital where I work now had us come in to do a TB test. I had documentation of a TB test from last June and another one from a year ago but they still made me do it again. :angryfire Then they drew blood and ran a CBC with diff, liver enzymes, electrolytes, and titers for not only Hep B but also MMR and Varicella. Then I had to go pee in a cup. Two days later I had to came back to get the TB test read and went over the results of the blood and UDS. Basic vitals were taken along with weight, and I had to do the N95 test. Some people got their vision checked but I think the person forgot to do so with me. It sounds like a lot, but I'm actually glad it was done. It's nice to know I'm not anemic etc.
