GUM! Can you chew it on shift?

Heard a hospital banned gum... didn't say why. I think I'd have to quit a job that banned gum.

Well? Can you chew gum? Why not? Do you do it anyways? Does anyone care?

people always say they chew gum so discreetly that no one even knows they're chewing it. i'd love to show them all videos of themselves chomping away . . . .

I stopped chewing gum because I always lose track of what I'm doing and end up smacking my gum in a really obnoxious way.

Also don't chew it at work because I get this weird smell/taste thing where if I'm chewing gum and something smells bad my gum ends up tasting like whatever I'm smelling.

I'm not sure what the official rule is but I chew it. Our air is so dry I get a bad cough throughout the day that gum prevents me from having. Plus it helps with the coffee breath. I don't think it's very professional, but I don't think coughing all over my patients is any better so....

Also, to Alta, when I read that post about someone's mother saying that only whores chew gum, my jaw dropped. It was a pretty splashy comment to make, even though it was the mom's opinion and not the poster's (although the poster did say that gum should only be chewed in private!), so I don't think it should be surprising that many have felt the need to respond to that.

Are the same people who bash gum chewing the ones who eat onions and garlic and act like its roses coming off their breath?

Look deeper and you will always find double standards

You know, cough drops were what I started with and they don't work nearly as well as gum. Plus, at the rate I was eating them they were giving me a stomach ache.

I admit I'm a gum addict. I try to not chew at work but I can go through a pack in just a day. I only like it as long as it has the flavour that's why I go through so much.

My family hides gum from me because they'll find it all gone the next day :lol2:

Allow me to add some perspective:

*ahem*

Holy ****; it's ******* gum you're discussing.

Aw man, here I was just looking for a good ole fashioned gum debate and now I have the Oompa Loompa song stuck in my mind!

I'm another person who things this argument borders on ridiculous. People are attacking "chewers" worse than smokers! I mean, it's gum people. And I am not a big gum chewer...I've had the same small pack of Trident in my purse for a year. If you don't like gum, don't chew it. But it is no reason to attack a person's moral character because they chew gum. I can think of many, many more unprofessional things!
