Oh my god! I haven't posted in a long time, but I just had to post again. I'm watching the premier of Grey's Anatomy -- any of you see this?? (new show on ABC)
The Doctor, after being questioned by a nurse says, "I'm just a resident, but you take 4 years of medical school, and let me know if I'm right." (Did I quote it right?)
Then, as he walks away he says, "I hate nurses."
Then, he walks up to a female resident and mistakenly calls her a nurse and she responds, with anger and indignation, "Did you just call me a nurse?" As though it were a racial slur!
I mean, nurses have historically been marginalized in many mass media outlets, but this is amazing!!
I agree with Sunshine. Though I am a nurse I can not tell you how many times I have seen and heard nurses talk or act in a demeaning fashion to CNA's. I know very few nurses who would not become irrate at being mistaken for a CNA. Most nurses I know are of the oppinion that they earned their title and are above CNA's. So I say that is in fact the reality. These interns/Docs are no different than most nurses who feel above CNA's. If you don't like it stop whining about it and write your own darn show about cocky nurses. Flame retardent suit in place.
When I was in nursing school, there was an LPN (as far as I know she's still there) who used to down new RNs saying things like, "Oh that new RN has only book knowledge, but here in the actual setting, she's dumb, etc. It just about roasted me, but I was a student and knew better than to speak up. I had an army nurse for an instructor.
Hi Everyone,I am new to this forum, I just was searching the net for some info on Grey's Anatomy also and I stumbled into this forum and wanted to thank and support your efforts here. After watching the first couple of episodes, I refuse to watch it anymore
I just graduated from med school and starting as an Intern this July and wanted to say thanks to all Nurses for all that you do and please don't think that most Interns think about nurses the way this show potrays.
I recently lost my mother to BreastCA and the nurses that took care of her made all the difference in the world. Also,
Unlike most residents, I worked under nurses as a clerk for 3-4 years before med school and I have witnessed what you have to put up with.
Thanks,
Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to post. Welcome! Come back and visit. We only bash docs occasionally!
Okay people first of all I see your points but keep in mind it is a television show! Not reality tv. Have you seen Desperate Housewives? How many housewives do you know like that? :rotfl:
I think the main concern should be how nurses are generally protrayed by the media. It is either not at all or it is negative. We need to get out there and sell our profession better. No wonder we have a nursing shortage.

ER portrays nurses well.

saw this episode and unfortunately this is not what she meant. She was talking about how she comes from a trailer park and has to work extra hard because nobody believes she should be there and be a doctor, and how when people see her coming they hope she is the nurse, not the doctor.
i've only seen this show 1.5 times an both times it was unbelievably ridiculous, so I'm done, I'll be sticking to ER and Discovery health.
