Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
I am starting to collect journal articles for Capstone class that is not for another 2 months. But I guess I really am unsure what I should be collecting, I wanted to focus on Readmission but it such a broad subject, any thoughts?
Try to narrow it down to one area, such as pediatric, or adult. Disease: heart failure, diabetes, etc.
What do you see in your personal experience for re-admits? I was going to do HF and what kind of inpatient education and community involvement would keep people away from the hospital.
Oh wow volunteering in Ecuador! That sounds amazing!
Me...no clue..probably start volunteering here in Ecuador..... My life is probably different than most, lolYes follow the Rubric...as in a few classes, some of the required info is not in the instructions, but it is in the Rubric! I copy/paste each weeks instructions onto a MS word document.as well as the rubric!!
In HLT 317(Anything class)..it seems a few students should have done the above....as they did the wrong assignment!!!

Sorry didn't have to do that 1.....Surprised the "BSN" police have caught u for putting "BSN" in ur title, lol Good luck!
Highly recommend HLT317 if u need an "anything" class!! They say it is writing intensive...nope! In fact in week 4, you have nothing due (besides DQs) There is a 2 part group project..1st part a paper due at the end of week 3...then a powerpoint based off the paper, due week 5! You do a draft paper in week 2..which gets critiqued by a fellow student and u get a mark from the prof.....then if there are any changes, the final edition is due week 5! Many of the students are not RNs, but form various other health occupations, and I think for many it is an early class in their program, as many seemed very clueless about APA...ie was told to take away the centered and bolded heading as I'm not writing a novel!! lol It is a research class, so somewhat interesting..much more so than HLT314!!

How about compared to AMP450 Leadership and Vocation? I would give up a free week and do a paper so that I did not have a CLC Project.

I thought the final week was no big deal but the CLC project for this class was awful. Lets face it, what CLC project was decent? Anyway I was able to provide pre-operative teaching for surgical procedures at my facility. I made a handout about post-operative pain and discussed expectations, rating, and alleviation techniques.
The three assignments were fairly easy just follow the directions for the teaching plan. Surprisingly it wasn't too hard.

The CLC was pretty easy for HLT 317, and I had a good group.......AMP450 was very straight forward..but one has to attend a committee meeting and write a short paper on that! can't go wrong with either class......much less work in HLT317.....of course a bad group could change that, lol

I'm on week 5 tomorrow in this class! The professor has been great and the class is actually the best one I've been in so far!! I am scared about this week as well bc I am super busy with other stuff, but I know that it'll be doable! Good luck! :)
Week 4 just ended of Trends and it was a CLC assignment ppt on continuing education. Also due was how a bill becomes law. The ladder seemed pretty easy but I probably did not do it correctly (no Rubric to follow). Each assignment was worth 150 points. My problem was the CLC group. I volunteered to do the first 2 parts (knowing I was working the weekend it was due) and I got it done by Wednesday. Only 3 people in my group and one guy in my group proceeded to tell me all that was wrong on mine. The other person, could not write English to the point, that I do not understand what she is trying to say. The punctuation is all over the place, very poor spelling, and I think if you had English 100 prior to AA degree, this would not be a problem. But then again, if she is from another country, maybe not required. My point is that this program is heavy on being correct with all she had wrong, so how does one pass every class?? I got home from work Sunday to find that the guy turned in the power point as is. Yes he asked her to clear up her work, and she never replied. I looked at what he turned in and her part was very poor and no speaker notes!!! OMG!! Worse CLC group ever! There is a spellcheck if your English writing is bad. I will let you know how it all turns out. I am barely hanging on to an A as it is because the other assignment the week before did not have a rubric because it was a personal reflection paper (450-600) words. Mine was 660 with title page and references. She knocked 20% off and said "great paper, but a little more in depth on your relating to your future"! What? So I looked at my paper and it does nothing but reflect on my future.... She said she will take another look but I have not heard anything. I even sent her a note saying it was unfair to knock that much off when there was no rubric. had there been a rubric, it probably would of knocked 3% off or something close to it..
