Graduation...Go or No?

Is going to graduation worth it? Yes I understand it was a struggle getting here, but hear me out. The thing that really bugs me is that graduation is a week before I actually get the results from my CPNRE. If it was a week after the fact, I would be like "heck yeah". Also I work the day of and after graduation, I did book it off but was denied. My husband also works. Another thing, I think the schooling was a joke. I mean, for 2.5 years, I went to school for 2 days a week. Thats it, I don't feel the program prepared us enough. I was expecting school to be 5 days a week, not 2! I just want opinions please, whether or not to attend. Another thing, there will be 11 different courses graduating at the same time with us.?

If you want to go, go if not its' no big deal.

A lot of girls in my program didn't attend graduation. Most of them had a previous degree though so they already did the graduation thing and didn't feel like they needed to do it again. Go to pinning though, that's unique to nursing!

Specializes in Acute Mental Health.

I didn't attend. It meant nothing to me. Not that I roast anyone else. Just for me, personally, it was just another thing to do. This was my first degree and when I finish my next one, I won't attend either. Just not my thing. I did however, go to dinner with my family.

Specializes in Med Surg - Renal.

I went to my pinning ceremony, but not graduation. I already had a bachelor's degree and didn't want to do the cap and gown thing.

I later saw pictures of my classmates in their caps and gowns and I wish I would have attended.

Specializes in LTC currently.

In my eyes, graduation is not all that serious. I didnt attend my high school graduation or prom for that matter, I do have that Diploma and a 3.8 Gpa to go along with it and number 3 in the class of 351 students.......mom is a nurse and didnt go to her graduation, only her pinning ceremony. Her license is proof that she finished school. My aunt was the same way, she didnt go to her LPN or RN graduation ceremony. In some people eyes, it dont mean nothing, to others it mean the world.

That is what I did also. I haven't been to any of my graduations or pinnings and don't regret it. Like you said just not my bag.

Specializes in Psych ICU, addictions.

Most of my classmates didn't go to graduation. I did because I graduated with honors, darn it, and I wanted to wear all that regalia for once in my life! :)

A lot of my classmates chose not to go and that is fine. Those of us who did had a great time and REALLY made our voices as nursing graduates known. It was a very powerful and moving experience. I also graduated with honors and got a huge kick out of having my name called "With Distinction" amongst my family and friends.

Specializes in wound care.

u only grad once think about it ??for me i was on the fence, but going and being with all the people i just spent two + years of my life with was all worth it to me

Specializes in Med Surg, Specialty.

I was among the less than 1/3 of my starting class who ended up graduating(ever). I did not feel the school adequately prepared us, and instead left us to fend for ourselves, so why would I want to celebrate with my school which let me down? It was my family who helped get me through, so I instead celebrated with them, and have never regretted it.

I'm a second degree person and didn't do graduation the first time around. I went to pinning and enjoyed making a big deal of getting this degree.

But it's up to you. I do not regret skipping graduation for my first degree.
