Mornin' all. I got my first dose today and I feel almost tearfully relieved and energized to be on this side of history. I thought I would start a thread dedicated to the experience of being vaccinated, so that we can share info with those who are still on the fence or who are watchful waiting to see how things go.
My hospital got 5000 doses delivered on Tuesday. We have given almost half of that already in the last two days. Participation is voluntary and divided into tiered groups based on patient exposure. Those who volunteer (still paid but outside normal job duties) to work the employee Covid vaccine clinic we have set up can also get it, which is how I was eligible to get it already today.
Getting the second dose is crucial for any protection, so we make an appointment to come back for the second dose on exactly day 21. We will get another shipment from Pfizer in time for that. My wait time in line was about 30 minutes in all. The first day employees showed up and waited over 2 hours, cheerfully. There is a LOT of positivity and hope going on here surrounding this, which feels amazing.
We go to an observation room for 10 minutes after the injection, where we were given bottled water and single serving snacks while we observe for any allergic reaction.
The injection itself was nothing. Easiest shot I have ever gotten by far. I don't even have any arm soreness so far. I will touch base if I start to get any kind of side effects.
Anyone else getting theirs yet?
My daughter had her second Moderna yesterday and it's kicked her butt. nasty headache, random body aches Lots of chills but no actual fever. I'll be getting mine Friday and I'm not looking forward to my weekend. We're opting not to treat fever. Lets see if I turn out to have a fever.
I had a mild fever after my second shingarix but it only dawned on me the next day that it was in response to the vaccine.
I got Moderna #1 on 1/16. Mild fatigue the next day, arm pain for about 36 hours (felt just like I'd gotten a tetorifice shot to me).
#2 is scheduled for 1/13. I'm a school nurse, and I am pretty lucky #2 is timing with a break for us (the following week is no school) just in case I need to lay low.
I got #1 on a Saturday just in case since I didn't need to be back in school the next day.
I know a lot more of my friends in the hospital have gotten the Pfizer and shot #2 in the last couple of weeks (many had body aches, mild fever lasting 1-2 days after #2), but not really any folks by my that have gotten Moderna #2 yet, so thank you for those that have and are sharing.

I got the 1st dose of the vaccine last month towards the end of the month. It was in our auditorium and after the shot they have to watch us for about 15 mins for any reaction.
They prioritized high risk employees such as those in direct contact with COVID patients which I am. I did not get any bad side effects other than a sore arm. When I got the flu shot my arm was actually more sore than this. My heart did feel like it was raising later that night but it did not last and I'm a coffee drinker so it might have been that. By the next day, its just the sore arm.
I will be getting the 2nd dose this week, and I can post an update on this.
UPDATE: I got the 2nd dose of the Moderna vaccine yesterday. 12 hours after I only got a sore arm. Not until the middle of the night closer to midnight when I started to get the chills and 101 F fever which went away after an hour after taking Advil. But I was tired in the morning since I didn't really sleep well because of the chills. I was fine this morning, but got the chills again and low grade fever mid-afternoon. I'm feeling a little better now, but it seems that the side effects comes and goes which might be around for a few more days.

UPDATE: 3 days after vaccine. I feel like my old self again. I was able to go to work yesterday with no issues.
Updating with experience of second dose of Moderna.
Day 1 - 1400: Received vaccine, no pain, hung out in observation area for the required time and then went back to my desk to finish writing up an admission assessment.
Day 1 1530 - Headed home early because I had only come in to help with admissions and it was snowing. Mild headache, but I had one before I got the vaccine so whatever.
Day 1 1800 - Arm is sore at deltoid and I feel stiff all over. Being in the cold is not helping. Sitting in front of warm fire feels good. Feeling sleepy. Decide to go to bed early.
Day 1 2200 - Wake up feeling nauseous and vaguely painful all over. Drink water, feel better but arm with injection is quite stiff (though still somehow not as bad as tetorifice vaccine), and my hips hurt which makes it hard to find a comfortable sleep position. Lots of tossing and turning.
Day 2 0400 - Finally in a comfortable sleep position.
Day 2 0530 - Crap. Time to wake up. Everything hurts. My skin hurts - however muscle stiffness is still really just in deltoid, and oddly my legs and glutes. Walking around house leg stiffness goes away though glutes still oddly sore - I got the shot in the deltoid right? Take tylenol, drink water, eat breakfast, and feel well enough to head into work.
Day 2: Generally feel low energy all day. Periodically horrible myalgia, but could be worse.Tylenol is a miracle drug and keeps the worst of the sensation away. Spend day avoiding cold drafts which make myalgia flare - find blanket in drawer that was a holiday gift from hospital management and bundle up anytime I need to be at my desk. It helps. Being at work distracts me from the worst of it and walking about campus seems to work out the worst of the muscle stiffness. Have convinced myself that unlike my coworkers who also got vaccine and appear to look utterly miserable - I got off lightly in terms of reaction.
Day 2 -- 1600 energy is very low and my brain is so foggy - try to discuss medication options with one of our pharmacists for a patient and realize I'm having trouble tracking conversation. Take notes and decide since it's non emergency and orders aren't going to start tonight anyhow I'll write the order in the morning. Not sure I trust my brain with something as complicated as medication orders right now. Decide if anything happens before 1700 that needs brain power I'm calling my supervisor and asking him to deal with it since he wisely did not get vaccine on his scheduled day and instead made arrangements to get it Friday afternoon. (Smart man he is). Fortunately nothing significant happens and I finish out day though my chart documentation is definitely not of my usual quality. Maybe this is why my coworkers looked out of it earlier?
Day 2: 1800 Not entirely sure I should have driven home but make it home safely and with in minutes of getting home pass out on the cushion in front of the fire. Husband wakes me up and tells me I should probably sleep in the bed if I need to take a nap.
Day 2 1930 - Husband wakes me up again and tries to convince me dinner is a thing. I eat a few bites; grumble at him and go back to bed. Sleep is far more important than food.
Day 3: 0530 I've slept soundly and feel more or less human again. Deltoid is still vaguely sore but I have energy again! By 0830 arm stiffness is gone and I feel completely normal.
I received my second Moderna dose about 0945 Friday morning. Started feeling cruddy around 6pm and went downhill from there. Fever and a frontal lobe headache. I was trying to avoid taking advil or tylenol. I had a fussy belly all night, no actual nausea, but it kept me from considering other options in the back of the medicine cabinet because eating something beforehand was breaking my brain. So I behaved myself. around 5am I took tylenol and then again around 10am. The headache hasn't returned although I do miss the night's sleep that I didn't get. Hopefully I'm done, but I won't fully believe that until I wake up tomorrow morning feeling chipper.
Also of note my tonsils were swollen and annoying and I had a bilateral earache most of today, that's still going on, but it was drowned out by that headache until recently.
I'm 51. No co-morbidities, no allergies or sensitivities. Got the 2nd Moderna. Just felt fatigued, but at the 12 hours mark, it hit. Relentless chills, low grade fever all night, total body soreness/aches and a weird headache. Very flu like. Lasted much of the day the following day. Just felt off. It all went away by day 2 post vaccine. I would not recommend working the day following to be safe. I had to call out. It was rougher with the 2nd dose than I thought it would be.
