Hello everyone,
I am just curious to find out your state of practice and your starting rate as well as patient ratio. I am in O-Town (Orlando, Florida ) and the starting rate here for GN's is $19.69. How pathetic!

In the western part of NC and the piedmont area GN base pay is between $18.50 - $19.75. Cost of living varies greatly throughout the state.

Here it's $20.50/hr, with a raise to I think $21.50 upon passing the boards. Cost of living here is very high.

Hi mom2bears-
I'm in Ohio also and hope to work for Cleveland Clinic. Is the $25/hr excluding or including shift differential?
Thanks!

the cleveland clinic is very hard to get into as a new graduate. (so i hear) i have applied there about three weeks ago and heard nothing. the $25/hr was base pay not including shift diff. best of luck in your search.

In Allentown, PA the starting rate for out top hospital is $21.50 and $22.50 after passing the NCLEX. But on top of it I get free medical insurance for being full time. That alone makes it all worthwhile.

I had to do some Googling to figure out what the heck you were all talking about. Never heard of a "GN" but realized from the search that it's the same thing we call an "Interim-Permit Nurse" here in California. Some of our area hospitals don't change your pay once you pass the NCLEX, and starting new-grads at $28 or thereabout is pretty typical here. Most want you to have a confirmed test date or a commitment to test within the early weeks of the training programs. Some require you to have tested before the start of training.
