GN starting rate?

Hello everyone,

I am just curious to find out your state of practice and your starting rate as well as patient ratio. I am in O-Town (Orlando, Florida ) and the starting rate here for GN's is $19.69. How pathetic!

Hi there. GN's in Central PA start from $19 - $22 per hour. I do agree that it should be more!!

Starting pay here in central Wisconsin is around $21. Larger cities are $22-24. I'm surprised in a city as large as Orlando the pay isn't higher!:o

Pathetic!!! try $16.00/hr for pathetic.

The cost of living here is very high. ;)

The best pay I found in all my searching was $16.85/hr and that was an hour and 15 mins. away. By the time you figure in gas, wear and tear on the car, etc....you loose money. Plus their insurance was double what I pay now......

And I'm stuck for many more years because of personal reasons - making $16/hr, taking 4-6 days of call a month for extra cash......and dream of a great paying job. The good news is I'm up for a wage review in the next 30 days.....

I'm in Ontario. I'll start at $24/hr as GN, then once I find out I've passed my boards I go up to $27/hr--but that takes a couple of months. Not bad for a starting wage I must say......I got friends who are graduating with university degrees and going back to work at summer camps for $8-9/hr.

Starting pay in the Indianapolis, IN area is about $20.50. Cost of living is reasonable.

I started working on a cardiac medical unit. If it was primary nursing then I had 3 patients. If I had a tech then 4-5 patients. I think it was 6-8 with an RN and LPN.

$22.50 base. Tennessee

One hospital here in Louisville, KY that interviewed me for a CNA position, starts the new RN at $19.85 per hour. They are giving $5,000 referral bonuses to their employees for RN referrals and hires though! They increased it from $2500.00, looks like they would start the nurse out at more money though.

Here in the Phoenix area, new grads start off at $24.50-$27.00/hr. Depends on if you go to Banner, the Catholic hospitals, or County/VA. Right now, County is offering a starting pay of $27.00/hr, $20,000 bonus for a 1 year contract (they are trying to get Magnet status), up to $5K in continuing education. The best "deal" I've found for new grads so far, but then again, it's COUNTY. Lol :barf01:

The best I found here in San Antonio is $19 per hour.

$18.84 here in Bloomington, Indiana

$30.00 in L.A. CA

$40/hr to $42/hr in Norhtern California (San Francisco Bay Area). You should know the cost of living is very expensive though. (A one bedroom apartment is $1500 to $2000/mo. So a lot of nurses share apartments and pay $750 to $1000/mo in rent. You would be hard pressed to be able to afford to buy a house on one income. However, there are lots os great people here, you're close to the beach, the foothills, the weather is temperate, and there's definitely a nightlife and cultural entertainment. The last bonus is that there are nursing patient ratios as mandated by the state. Nurses in acute care take care of 1:5 patients on the hospital floor. Everything is relative.
