George Washington University ABSN Spring 2016

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm currently finishing up my prerequisites and just started my NursingCAS Application for George Washington ABSN for Spring 2015. I found out today (4/17/2015) GW temporarily made their Spring 2016 application unavailable due to errors. They will be releasing it again starting 4/24/15. Until then, I'll be completing the generic information on NursingCAS (personal info, transcript entry, etc)

I just wanted to start a thread to see who else is applying to GW ABSN Spring 2016 and get through this journey together!

@Ksiverts, I do enjoy being in the program, no matter how challenging and rigorous it is. I have been blessed with my clinical placements! I have absolutely loved all of my sites and my instructors have all been absolutely wonderful. Most of the clinical sites are located in D.C. and VA. (GW, medstar, INOVA facilities, Reston). Most students actually don't live right by the campus. A few of them do but majority of us live closer to D.C. (Falls Church, Tysons, Arlington, Annandale). Many of us have families around the area so we spend time with them whenever we have free time. Some of us go out to D.C. to hang out. Honestly, you won't have a lot of free time haha. They keep giving you homework/simulation labs/projects/exams/clinical assignments so, in my experience, I don't have a lot of free time to go out. BUT, D.C. is only an hour drive from campus and theres a lot to do in D.C. so you will definitely have some things to do in your free time. I am happy with my decision to go to GW. I read that some people are trying to decide between GW and UMSON. I was admitted to both schools but chose GW because I loved the clinical placements, faculty, and that its only 15 month vs. 24 month at UMSON. However, both are really great schools!

And UMSON is so much cheaper than GW haha.

Since GW SON is only 5 years old, it can be disorganized at times (class schedules, assignment due dates, etc). But professors and instructors try their best to clear up any confusions and are there if students ever need anything.

I suggest you go over some math (converting from mL to L, kg to lb, etc) because we have to know how to dilute medications and calculate the dosage based on patients' weights. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!

@gummycoco,

Thank you so much for answering all my questions!

Katie

Awesome info @gummycoco!! Would you mind me asking where do you stay? I live on Ft Meade so I know it will be one HECK of a drive. Do you think it's worth it? I've read in other forums how some nurses drove 2 hours or more while in school.

Out of curiosity, has anyone who applied to the VBSN program gotten a decision yet?

My things haven't even been verified yet. *sigh*

Oh jeez... How is that possible? Yours was done before mine.

For those of you who have been accepted, did you hear by email or by snail mail?

I found out via email. I found out in August and never received anything in the mail.

Hi everyone!

I was just accepted to the spring absn program and I'm trying to figure out housing. I'm from Maryland so I'm somewhat familiar with the area. It seems as if most people live between Ashburn and DC because of the clinical placements? @gummycoco I see you said that the majority of you live closer to DC, so would it be more advantageous to live near there than somewhere in between like in Reston or Herndon? How much time would you say is spent in Ashburn vs. in the DC area?

Thanks!

Katelyn

Kporter,

A lot of the students live in Reston and Herndon. It's a good location. I lived in Herndon for the first two semesters and I loved the location. For school, you are never in D.C. unless you have clinicals there. From my experience, I loved living closer to the campus. Less traffic and driving!

Hi kporter21 - how long did it take to receive your acceptance email from when your application went for final review?

Hi! My application was sent for final review on September 21 and I got my acceptance email on October 13
