George Washington University ABSN Spring 2016

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm currently finishing up my prerequisites and just started my NursingCAS Application for George Washington ABSN for Spring 2015. I found out today (4/17/2015) GW temporarily made their Spring 2016 application unavailable due to errors. They will be releasing it again starting 4/24/15. Until then, I'll be completing the generic information on NursingCAS (personal info, transcript entry, etc)

I just wanted to start a thread to see who else is applying to GW ABSN Spring 2016 and get through this journey together!

G

If I didn't have the GI Bill and the Yellow Ribbon program that goes along with it, I don't think I COULD justify the cost. My tuition should pretty much be completely covered, I just have to pay for books and materials. Otherwise, there' s no way I'd be able to attend GW.

Hi everyone!

Congrats on your admissions to GW! I'm a current GW ABSN student, in my 3rd semester. Feel free to PM me with any questions/concerns!

@gummycoco, do you like the program? Are you happy with your clinical placements? Where are most of the clinical sites located? Do most students live right by campus or somewhere between DC and Ashburn? What is there to do in your free time? Are you happy with your decision to to to GW? Any advice for the rest of us? Something you wish you had known? Sorry for the bombardment of questions! Thanks for commenting so we can hear your thoughts!

I didn't get an email today... Yay for another week of anxiety. I thought for sure I'd hear something by now. The last one I got was on Tuesday telling me they had my completed application, and they said they'd update me when it goes to the admission committee.... Booo :(

@TDJones I'm also applying for the VBSN. This wait is horrible. I submitted everything Sept 1 and haven't even gotten an email that it's been sent to admissions. What branch are you?

I'm Army. You? I wish we had some kind of idea how competitive the VBSN admissions are. I know it's a fairly new program, but... How many people know about it and are applying? How do their stats compare to ours?

If you don't mind me asking, what overall and science GPAs are you applying with? My overall is a 3.44, but my science is garbage- 2.7. I'm seriously anxious over this.

I'm Marine Corps. I wish we had more info as well. I love that this is offered for veterans but I'm wondering how many people apple and out of that how many are accepted. My Science GPA is 3.9 and my overall is 3.84. I also applied to UMSON so I'm waiting to hear SOMETHING.

Do you have a preference between GW and UMSON? I was going to apply there as well, but it's a little far from where I'll be.

GW is very far from me now but I'll make the drive. I'm torn between them because I know UMSON is an amazing program. It's closer and cheaper. But then again, I'm not paying for it so cost doesn't really matter. GW would only be 18 months while UMSON is 48. It's a tough decision. But heck I can't even make it until they do. LOL

Are there any non-military applicants who are able to justify the cost? Also, for the military applicants, are you planning on becoming a nurse in one of the branches? Why or why not?

If I can lose weight and get back within regs I'll definitely apply to be in the Air Force Nurses Corps. If not I definitely want to work for a VA hospital. I'm sick of seeing how veterans are treated(myself included) in those places. It's sad. Now I will say this. Even if I wasn't military and didn't have them pay for this I would still go. Are there cheaper programs? Yes. But this is a private institution(not private for profit) so the prices are going to be higher. I guess I think of it like other private institutions like Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. Can someone go somewhere cheaper? Yes. But I guess the name and prestige behind it has more weight.

I thought about trying to do the Army Reserve Nurse Corps, but more than likely I'll actually try to become a Civil Affairs officer instead. Obviously I'd be doing nursing as a civilian, but the Civil Affairs MOS has some unique and awesome (I think so, anyway) opportunities. Also, it'd be nice to do something different for the Army than I do in my day-to-day life. I'm currently a drilling reservist, and already have the Civil Affairs MOS, so it'd just be a matter of turning in a packet to try and become commissioned.
