George Washington University ABSN Spring 2016

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm currently finishing up my prerequisites and just started my NursingCAS Application for George Washington ABSN for Spring 2015. I found out today (4/17/2015) GW temporarily made their Spring 2016 application unavailable due to errors. They will be releasing it again starting 4/24/15. Until then, I'll be completing the generic information on NursingCAS (personal info, transcript entry, etc)

I just wanted to start a thread to see who else is applying to GW ABSN Spring 2016 and get through this journey together!

@Ksiverts There were some ABSN students when I was there, but they were in class so I didn't get to talk to them. There is like a lounge area where there is some entertainment, vending machine, and coffees that me and the staffs hangout that day. The school building is shared with Pharmacy students from Shenandoah university so there is that. As far as go to class and go home, I am not sure, I think certainly there is room for us to do things like group study after class, but I think some students commute from out of state, and some might have families, so it just depends on supposed.

It's great that you are thinking about pediatric, takes a lot of patience to do that. Actually one of the staffs I've talked to lives in Reston I believe and she loves it. Like you said, not too far from VA campus and has metro to DC. I think that's how she prefer to take when she does go into DC is by using the metro. It is also one of the places I am thinking about living in. Lots to think about, so stressful...

I finally heard from the school today. They received my application, but they needed my joint service (military) transcripts since I'm applying for the Veteran's BSN program. They should have them by tomorrow and then.... I wait some more. Blah.

@TDJones Awesome, you are one step closer to finding out.

@Ksiverts I'm moving from the boston area too! I'm taking a trip down at the end of the month to go apartment hunting. Shoot me an email if youre interested ([email protected]).

Thoughts on making a Facebook group? I'm not big into social media but it might make it easier to meet everyone and find others who will be in the program! Let me know :)

I'd be down for a Facebook group. I mean, I don't know if I've been accepted yet, but I'd be down.

k, I'll make one tonight :) Let me know if you have trouble finding it.

Can I ask how everyone feels about the total cost of this program, including tuition, room and board, and other program fees? Is anyone applying to any other programs?

There is a facebook "GW Nursing BSN students" for admitted students to communicate, find roommates with each other. However, it is a closed group though, only the accepted students can join I believe.

@bstobsn Glad you are interested in the program. I think the tuition is about 57k for the whole program. That is just tuition alone. I am not from the area so I can't really tell you the living cost, but Northern Virginia is not a cheap place to live in, well, I supposed it depends on where you come from. So I guess on top of tuition, there is the high/not so high living expenses. I think there are also other fees like lab fee, registration fee, NCLEX prep fee...etc ( I might be wrong, but there are some additional fees each semester). Hope this help. cya

GW has a whole breakdown of costs on the website, but it estimates housing at over $1000 per month and I have found nice places for $500-600 so I wouldn't go by their room/board estimates. Its a private university so it will never be an "affordable" program like a community college would be but the education will be incomparable!

Right, I know about the costs listed on the website (and the ones that can be found elsewhere). I just wanted to know how people felt about those costs compared to other ABSN or BSN programs that might be cheaper. And how are you justifying the total cost?
