Exactly what the title says: Who honestly hates nursing????

I love nursing and I hope other's feel the same as me.

It's a stressful job, but very rewarding.

If there is someone that 'hates nursing' then IMHO, they

need to leave the profession. Sick people do not deserve

a nurse that hates nursing.

One way to answer would be to look at nursing's high turn over rate. That might say the majority hates what nursing has become.

Right. Twenty years ago when I was a wide eyed student, I wanted nothing more than to be a nurse. I don't regret going to nursing school then, but I do dislike intensely what it has become - and if I knew then what I know now, things would be very different.

After almost 20 years of working and stuffing stress and the on and on of the daily grind at the hospital, I am looking at having to retire early due to health reasons.

Honestly, I do hate some parts of the job.......Like some days I don't get to eat or pee! But overall I really love the nurses I work with, most of the patients, and some days I feel like I made a difference.

Like today, I had a young developmently delayed pt who needed wound packing in her arm. I was told she has been screaming and biting during this procedure. I decided to premedicate her with some dilaudid, told her exactly what I was doing before and during, and told her over and over how well she was holding up. She didn't make a peep through the whole thing! I felt proud that I got her through it without causing her anxiety.

Those are the moments I love and why I keep going back.

i don't hate nursing. it's actually very interesting.

It's a frustrating profession for sure, but it sure does have its rewarding moments, like the previous poster pointed out... the story of the DD patient with the wound packing in the arm...

Myself, I've decided never to return to the medical hospital setting.. but I'm working in a psychiatric hospital with children, adolescents, and adults, and I'm really pretty happy. Sometimes you just have to find the area of nursing that you really "fit" into. When I did med-surge... while I became reasonably good at what I was doing, I still never could shake the feeling that med surge just wasn't a good "fit" for me, and I didn't fit in.

I like the actual patient care part of nursing. It is ALL the other things that interfere with that part which makes me have to admit I am at the verge of hating nursing.

You know I am saddened by the increasing number of seasoned nurses stating they hate nursing. I mean new grads and reality shock makes them hate it for a short time but when a seasoned nurse states that... there is something definately wrong. Burn out happens in all professions but hatred of the profession suggests a major problem within the profession itself. The "experts" had better start looking into this NOW before there is no profession worth saving. For the record no I do not hate nursing however I do not like the direction it is heading.

BTW what does IMHO mean?
