I've been a participant in the Nurses' Health Study 2 since I graduated. Once or twice a year, I fill out a questionnaire. These questionnaires are now online, and easy to fill out. Sometimes they ask for donations such as blood or hair. You are not obligated to participate in that if you don't want to do so.

I, too, have been a participant in the Nurses Health Study 2 for decades now, and strongly encourage younger nurses to join the new cohort.

I also have been involved in this study, so long I cannot remember when I joined. I think this is an a very important longitudinal study, albeit the sample being only nurses. For those sitting on the fence, it is very easy to share your health information. There is no pressure whatsoever. For the next generation of nurses, it is also of utmost importance. I think there are many unanswered questions that warrant further study. If you're a newer grad struggling with find employment, I'll give you a pass. For those who are working, please give it some thought and consideration.

Long-term studies like these are so very important. For example, it was through these Nurses' Health Studies that we learned that giving estrogen to post-menopausal women does not protect against cardiovascular disease. In fact, it increases the risk!

I've been doing surveys for years now. I hope it serves a purpose in the future. It'll tell how I had kids, gained weight, worked too many hours, gained weight, went back to school, gained weight, and hopefully once I'm done with school how I lost weight and moved on with my career.
