I am a firm beliver in if you do what is right for your pt you are always in the right....

2 weeks ago I had a terminal pt that died during my shift. One of the PRN nurses I work with questioned some things I did for this pt. This PRN nurse of course did not come to me with her concerns but went to other nurses through out the facility and some 2nd string mgmt. By the time it got back to my mgr things were blown out of proportion and I had yet to even defend myself.

So my mgr being the good mgr that she is, looked into my charting, spoke with the attending and what did she find out?? My charting was ideal, the attending said I was a great pt advocate and kept him informed. Long story short I had my yearly review on Monday and I got a bigger raise than I was expecting, my review stated wonderful things such as I am a strong pt advocate, I have good repor with physcians, my documentation is strong.

I need to thank that nurse that had to make a mountain out of a mole hill...as thanks to her I had the opportunity for my mgr to really look into my work.

YAYYY YOU!

Just keep up the good work of being a wonderful nurse and it does pay off, see?

Its nice to see that quality actually gets rewarded in your facility. I would guess there is not a union there! In our union shop, the nurse who reported you would be protected and you would have a letter in your file!

We have no union---and man if that is how your union is, that sucks...I just find it amusing that because this nurse tried to get me "in trouble" she in turn got educated on gossip and pt confidentiality and i in turn got a larger raise than I was expecting and had the chance for an attending to tell my mgr how much he respected me!!

I've been a nurse for almost 6 years, and I just recently got a raise 'just because'! Just because I am a wonderful asset to our unit, Just because I am friendly to EVERYONE, Just because I receive many compliments from patients, their families and other staff. Just because my boss didn't want to lose me to another hospital who would pay me more... Just because my boss thought I wasn't getting paid enough and my value was much more.

I cannot stress enough that if you continue to do an awesome all around job, you will be rewarded, eventually, no matter what other nurses try to do to you to bring you down. Good work !!

That is awesome---it is great to have a great mgr that actually looks out for the well being of thier staff/unit. So many times we gripe about mgmt but every now and then you find one that rocks!!!

I totally agree on you can not fail if you just do what is right.

Karma Baby!! Good for you!! It's nice to read a happy ending like this one. Shame on the gossip monger but now that she's been schooled let's hope she learned her lesson for the future. Send her a holiday card and leave a big smooth mark in it. lol :)

I agree with the first half of this post. Quality should be rewarded. Fortunately, not all union shops run like the 2nd half of the post you made. I would know; I have worked in 4 of them.

Maybe your unions actually represented nurses. We are represented by the same union that fixes the phone lines. How the 2 are related is beyond me. Everyone knows exactly how much they will make for the next 3 years and it does not matter how good you are. When one hospital in the system made a huge turn around and made a huge profit, the management wanted to give everyone there a bonus but the union said no!:banghead:

That is one reason to return to school for an adv. practice degree!
