Finish in case you want to do something with it. There is so much you can do and you may find the right thing. If you want to stay home, that is great, too! There is nothing wrong with that. Your loyalty should be to your family before anything and it is honorable that you may want to do this. My carreer is successful but family came first for me and my wife (also an RN). It is paying off since I believe I have two exceptional children.

My first contact was oin 2004. Mistrials, adjournments and other legal mumbo-jumbo delayed it! The plantif's lawyer speant over $30,000 on expert witnesses and I know he won't get it back from her. She was on record as saying she was waiting for her big payday. Now all she has is debt and hopefully guilt that she tried to defraud the system. I thinking of selling the movie rights:lol2:

I recently testified in a personal injury case. It was quite an experience! A claim of a patient's family that she was injured by a cot that fell over and hurt her foot. It sounded like BS but after prepping for the case I started to think I may have done something wrong. The jury didn't think so and she got nothing. This taught me an important lesson though. No matter how minor something seems, keep a good record of what happened. This incident was almost 9 years ago! I've forgotten a lot of useless stuff since then. It would be interesting to hear other nurses experiences with the legal system

I think this says something about hospital based nursing programs (are there any left?). I graduated from a hospital program on a Sunday and got hired at the hospital that ran the program the next day. It was very easy to step in because I spent 2 years in the system, knew the paperwork and policies so just had to start learning to be a nurse. I think they should come back. Now I am in grad school working on my NP and facing the same problems. I chose the school I am at for convenience more than quality. I would have loved to go to the big university program but it was not realistic given the fact I work, have a family and a life. I had to go to where the instructors may be less than qualified or I would not have been able to go. What I am able to do now that I couldn't in RN school was teach myself.

Maybe your unions actually represented nurses. We are represented by the same union that fixes the phone lines. How the 2 are related is beyond me. Everyone knows exactly how much they will make for the next 3 years and it does not matter how good you are. When one hospital in the system made a huge turn around and made a huge profit, the management wanted to give everyone there a bonus but the union said no! That is one reason to return to school for an adv. practice degree!

Its nice to see that quality actually gets rewarded in your facility. I would guess there is not a union there! In our union shop, the nurse who reported you would be protected and you would have a letter in your file!

You need to do what I did. My first rotation in OB was the birth of my second son. I was a rock star during the rotation! Everyone knew me, treated me great and gave me enough diapers for a year! The rest of the rotation was fantastic and I got to see just about everything you could imagine. When I finished school I was a float and sometimes floated to OB and there was no problem (other than being bored). Seriously, it is important to act professional and there should not be a problem.
