Heart Attack Grill (20/20 ABC show)

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Thought for sure I would see an uproar about this restaurant in Az featured on ACB's 20/20. The waitresses wear slutty Media-type 'nurses' outfits and roll their bloated patrons to their car in a w/c after they gorge themselves on unhealthy foods. It was featured on 20/20s Gimme a Break last pm. John Stossel says Gimme a Break about nurses being upset over the image. IMO the person who was defending the "real nurses" did a very poor job.

Anyone else see it??

thank you, sandy! i was beginning to think that i was the only nurse "humor impaired" enough to see a problem with the "naughty nurse" image and the public's view of the nursing profession!

you're not the only one. i have a great sense of humor, and i'm compleletely tired of the Mediaified nurse crap.

I'm furious about it. I have to admit that it absolutely perplexes me to see some nurses who don't care or don't think this is important.

I wonder how far it would go if say they had scantily clad TEACHERS? Miss Teacher sitting in a string in front of a class of 6 year olds advertising a bar and grill.

I bet some of those patrons/ burger slobs wouldn't like it if it were their daughters being prostituted for a tv commercial.

However, have you noticed how many of our members avatars aren't exactly complimentary depictions of nurses?

Good point, P_RN. I've been disturbed by some of the "nurse" avatars, but they don't violate TOS, so...

This whole thing is so stupid. I think I would be more ashamed to eat at a place like that than to work there. (and I would be pretty darn embarrassed to work there). I don't know whats more absurd...the food or the concept.

i have noticed that. and i've noticed how many of our members don't really seem to like nurses.

many people don't like (or respect) themselves.

i too, have an excellent sense of humor, yet the naughty nurse image has always offended me....even when i wasn't a nurse.

i don't know if it's a nurse issue or female issue, since females have historically been disrespected.

i'm also a pretty laid back mom but am militant about my dd dressing 'cheaply'.

i just wish women understood how they sell themselves short, when they feel they need to dress provocatively in order to feel seductive.

i can tell you right now, my attractiveness and sexuality as a woman, starts and ends with my brains...with all the accompanying passions, insights, ideas and creativity contained therein.

and so, of course as a female nurse, i deeply resent any image that focuses solely on one's physical attributes or lack thereof.

shallow, degrading and outright disrespectful.

i just wish more of our sisters, understood this.

It seems to me that previously it was men who subjugated women, and now many women subjugate themselves.

Did anyone see the interview of the young woman who works at this cafe, and she is a nursing student? There she was, stuffed into a Mediaographic outfit, saying something like "doesn't bother me." I don't remember if it was in the 20/20 interview or another related interview.

I think that's what infuriates me the most about it all. And many of the ones who do it have it confused with power.

I agree. Look at the role models for some of the young women, such as Beyonce who claims to the a power woman worthy of respect as an actress/singer, yet practically takes her close off to sell her records. Or Madonna. No wonder these women feel it's o.k. to disrespect themselves and the nursing profession to sell burgers and make tips.

Hmm, I wonder if one of the customers actually had a heart attack or choked on their food, would they have to call the paramedics or would the 'nursing staff' be able to cope??? :chuckle
