Thought for sure I would see an uproar about this restaurant in Az featured on ACB's 20/20. The waitresses wear slutty Media-type 'nurses' outfits and roll their bloated patrons to their car in a w/c after they gorge themselves on unhealthy foods. It was featured on 20/20s Gimme a Break last pm. John Stossel says Gimme a Break about nurses being upset over the image. IMO the person who was defending the "real nurses" did a very poor job.
Anyone else see it??
I'm furious about it. I have to admit that it absolutely perplexes me to see some nurses who don't care or don't think this is important.
Me too multi...It's really odd.
Lots of issues here. Of course, I'm sick of someone equating my job with their fantasy. It really angers me!
I'm also angered that these women who have so little respect and dignity for themselves call themselves 'nurses'. Argh! :angryfire
But, what really chaps my hide is that the 20/20 show thought is was a joke that nurses would be mad. Like, "oh the cute little nurses are mad..."
And therein lies the whole problem. When we have a complaint, or concern-it isn't taken seriously. It's blown off, and we are told to relax. Well, no, I am not going to relax about this. I'm sorry.
Those women are trash, and are breaking the law by calling themselves nurses. Simple as that.
who actually took the time to read the articles or see the website of the restaurant beside lambasting them without knowing all the facts?
heart attack grill - home of the double bypass burger - taste worth dying for!
here is an excerpt from their homepage:
*the use of the word "nurse" above is only intended as a parody. none of the women pictured on our website actually have any medical training, nor do they attempt to provide any real medical services. it should be made clear that the heart attack grill and its employees do not offer any therapeutic treatments (aside from laughter) whatsoever. click here to read about the arizona state board of nursing's threat of lawsuit against the heart attack grill.

Well, I actually live here in Az where the Heart attack grill is located, and I watched the 20/20 article. I've listened to many a news cast and radio show dedicated to this very subject. I, frankly, don't care what the fine print says, I care what image is promoted-- Slutty girls with low self esteem calling themselves nurses, and the public not caring when we object.

And might I add that there is a reason that this website that you have linked exists. They certainly didn't create it out of the goodness of their hearts...
I am slightly confused here, so please help me out. I have spent my entire life being told that women are just as tough and capable as men if not even more able due to women "having a higher tolerance for pain due to childbirth." But it seems that whenever something offensive occurs women suddenly become wilting flowers and feel victimized and degraded. How do these two ideas jibe with each other?
I just have a very hard time imagining a proffesion that was predominately male spending countless hours and 7 web pages talking about how offended they are by a wait staff somewhere dressing as gay sailors, cops or what have you, much less having a professional advocacy group lobbying against it.
Is this image of being weak and so easily offended by something that is really very trivial when put into context really the kind of image that will help nurses proffesional images?
Honestly? I've been single 2.5 years if some guy wants to fantasize about me I hope and pray he lets me know!!!
wonder if i sent my hubby if hed have a better appreciateion of me- me dragging in at 1 am looking like i been beat up and smelling like ummmm less than pretty sure makes for a non conversatin LOLOL
ha! i hadn't heard about this. i see the webpage provides has a rebuttal to the az state bon
heart attack grill nurses are actually not real nurses
i would never go to this place, but i really don't take it seriously. actually, the above webpage sort of cracks me up really, it's so absurd, the whole thing. i guess i don't take myself seriously.
like one poster here said, hey, i've been single for 9 years, and the only pt who fell for me was a totally disgusting aging hippy who was in for overdoing on his narcotics, and he almost went ama, going outside in his hospital gown on a 10 degree night. i look really good for my age too, but being a nurse doesn't seem to do anything for me, other than endearing me to a lot of little old men and little old ladies.
another thing is, who says nurses aren't respected? according to gallup we're the most respected profession. i get tons of respect, i'm very well loved by my pts and i get respect in my community because of my profession.
