Faith Hill makes fun of nurses!

Nurses General Nursing

I don't usually sit around watching junk on tv but last night I was trapped at work with nothing to do. So I found this show called "Country Music Divas." Since I am curious as to what, besides looks, women like Faith Hill and Shania Twain have(I'm not saying these women aren't perfectly likeable and nice, but I just don't see the talent) I thought I would watch and see what all the fuss over them was about.

So Faith Hill was talking about moving to Nashville and seeing how hard it was going to be in the music business. She said she asked her mother "Maybe I should just go be a *nurse* or something?...ha ha ha."

I know in this world everyone is looking for something to get offended at, and maybe she didn't mean it the way it sounded, but it just kind of irked me. Like people with no brains or talent or drive become nurses "or something"..ha ha ha.

(By the way, after watching the program I *still* don't see what the fuss over these women is about.)

Not nice comment. I don't care for her talent either.

I totally agree Jess. Can't stand the lady, and her "talent" or lack thereof. Ever since she remade Janis Joplin's "Piece of my Heart". What a sacriledge to a GREAT ROCK N ROLL tune. :angryfire Oh well. Takes all kinds huh? Have a great Turkey day!!:coollook: Rock on, WW.

Ok, i saw the show (by accident, there was REALLY nothing else on TV) she said this on. My interpreteation of it was that she was really asking "i don't know whether i should go for singing, or another career."

I'm so glad I'm not famous - I stick my foot in my mouth enough with almost no one watching - can't imagine having my words interpreted or misinterpreted to/by millions lol.

Don't beat me up about this but I guess if anyone (nurse-wise) wants to be offended about anything Faith Hill has said or done, they could definitely be offended by one of her videos which has her, in some scenes, dressed in a short white nurses' (theoretically) uniform with the buttons undone to show her wonder-bra'd breasts and a little white cap.......

speaking of which, I saw a picture in Rolling Stone magazine of Christina Aguilara dressed up for Halloween as a "nurse" - she looked similar to Faith Hill in the video I just described - the red garters coming out of the bottom of the dress was extra classy!! She even had a name tag on. Her fiancee was dressed up as a physician - he had on a lab coat and one of those things on his head that people think docs wear - you know, the round thing made of reflective metal - BTW, what is that for? Anyway, I felt bad for the guy that he had such a boring costume - I guess nurses are more interesting to dress up as, no? :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :chuckle :chuckle :coollook: :coollook:

I used to get all up in arms about stuff like this but not anymore..........

Actually there's a nurses organization that's a media watchdog, whose name escapes me, and they did take offense to Christina's ad.

I remember the video, she sexified a lot of professions in that video. The sex kitten vixen image of nursing is indeed offensive to some.

I'm not the judge of what is personally offensive to another person. Some things I can let go, others I can't.

Well, Nursing is not for everyone. I am glad that those who know it isn't for them don't try it just for the money, status, percs, well LOL. You know what I mean.

Didn't hear Faith's remark. But, out of context, it does sound like a dumb thing to say.

Sad thing is that, because they have such huge audiences, celebs can sometimes propagate vast distortions to the detriment of our -- or any other -- profession.

I can relate to where you're coming from; since becoming a nurse I find myself a bit sensitive to how we're viewed and portrayed as well.

A year ago on Halloween, there was a woman dressed as "Nurse Hoochie" with the vinyl uniform, low-cut...you get the picture. I remember making some comment to my BF about keeping me away from her. :rotfl:

I also watched the original M*A*S*H movie the other night, and while most of it had me in stitches, I could not help but take exception to how the nurses were portrayed: there was one who was just delighted to sew buttons on the Colonel's shirt while he was away; others who were willing to hop in the sack with the docs; and of course the one (I'm sure you all know which one)who was portrayed as an uptight, ill-humored, ball-breaking party pooper. :uhoh21:

There are other examples but I'll stop before I open a new can of worms and get in trouble for thread-busting, hee hee.

Didn't see the show, but I would have probably felt irritated myself while at the same time thinking she probably didn't mean anything by it.

Actually she did talk to her mother about being a nurse or something...from a book I had read. ACtually I did not go into nursing school for a glorious "save the world one patient at a time" feeling. My family was hungry and I had to do something. I actually saw that comment and I identified with it. I was not offended in the least but each person recieves messages in their own way.

Oh LOL I actually very much love Faith's music.........cannot stand Shania though.

Just my .02. This is how *I* perceived this comment..... she simply thought that deciding to persue an education in nursing, or "something" would be easier than tapping into the nashville country music scene, and becoming a star? (at some point). she simply was implying that it is hard coming up in that business.......I am inclined to agree, and I am not a faith hill nor country music fan. I would say to someone, if the subject came up, I have a better chance of becoming a "doctor" or "nuclear physicist" than a country music star, or rock star. But, I mean no disrespect to either of those professions at all, and in all actuality, I am not being sarcastic, I really mean I could be either of those before a performer/star. Get what I mean? You have to admit, barring actual talent, and even thats not a guarantee, that it it *is* easier to go to a university, and at least try to be educated , than it is to try to become the next break out star, where you need to rely on everyones opinion of how you perform, look, etc.......anyone get what I am saying????
