Faith Hill makes fun of nurses!

Nurses General Nursing

I don't usually sit around watching junk on tv but last night I was trapped at work with nothing to do. So I found this show called "Country Music Divas." Since I am curious as to what, besides looks, women like Faith Hill and Shania Twain have(I'm not saying these women aren't perfectly likeable and nice, but I just don't see the talent) I thought I would watch and see what all the fuss over them was about.

So Faith Hill was talking about moving to Nashville and seeing how hard it was going to be in the music business. She said she asked her mother "Maybe I should just go be a *nurse* or something?...ha ha ha."

I know in this world everyone is looking for something to get offended at, and maybe she didn't mean it the way it sounded, but it just kind of irked me. Like people with no brains or talent or drive become nurses "or something"..ha ha ha.

(By the way, after watching the program I *still* don't see what the fuss over these women is about.)

Now Now Now what happened to respecting each other. The OP deserves the same respect as each of you who slam her/him for the way she took that comment from Faith Hill. Oh how we humans love to walk on both sides of the road.

I think Faith Hill has a lovely voice and is very beautiful. As to her comment I personally didnt take it in a negative manner but I can see how you could be offended by it. Maybe the interviewer should have asked her to elaborate more on that comment to clarify her position on nurses so we could know for sure where she stood.

It amuses me that everyone is concerned about comments made about our profession. First off, we all tend to have an opinion one way or the other about folks in the entertainment industry which is fine but what they think about my life (and what I think about their's) is not really important.

I can tell you that being a Mississippi girl too, she most likely meant that maybe she should get a "respectable" job like nursing or something. Not many folk in small towns down home think it is too respectable for young ladies to be out in bars at night. And the chances of 'making it big' are pretty slim.

Food for thought: when we get into these discussions, we tend to stereotype the rich and famous just like we accuse them of stereotyping nurses. Just an idea. I think that we ALL use known professions for generalization purposes. Ever said anything like, "she's just a mother" or "i think i want a no stress job like the trashman" or "she's just a CNA ( housekeeper, ward clerk, etc) ". Any of those comments are not made to hurt someone but those folks have important jobs too.

God Bless you all, including Faith and have a Blessed Thanksgiving. I love the holidays even tho I miss down home more this time of year!

Entertainers don't hold much credibility with me. They know one thing... entertaining.

IMO, they know one thing...............MONEY.

IMO, they know one thing...............MONEY.

That too! :stone

Entertainers seem to think that b/c they're famous, that automatically makes them informed people with something relevant to say. What a joke!

Funny isn't it how we get our feathers all ruffled at nurses being stereo typed yet we have absolutely no problem stereo typing other professions. This is not directed at the OP as she did not stereo type anyone only enquired if she was alone in being offended. However a few have taken it as an oportunity to hop on the stereo typing band wagon. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Just find it an interesting observation.

That's really not a fair statement. That's like saying you know one thing.....being a CNA. I respect that people get irritated when they choose to have opinions and step out of entertaiining though. People like Jodi Foster, Alanis Morrisette and Bono to name a few know a lot more about just entertaining. Not that they hold much credility with how I live my life. :)

How would you feel if someone said the same kind of remark about you, based on what you do for a living?:uhoh3:

I can't stand Shania Twain's "music". All of her songs sound the same. Too poppy, lyrics are redundant, gag. Then again, i tend not to like the mainstream stuff. I also tend to be annoyed by those that say can't stand the fame, the press conferences, whine whine whine, yet have NO problem cashing the checks for it.

Anyway, i doubt FH's comment was meant as a slam. But i could see how the wording of it could be perceived as nursing being easier than singing.

This is beside the point but I just can't resist. I heard Shania Twain's music before I ever saw her, and when I first heard her on the radio it was about the biggest turn off I think I ever had. She acts all cutesy and hollers out "Woo!" and the back up singers take care of all the rest. What got me is the way people were talking about what an amazing voice she has....(HUH???)

Then I saw her on tv an understood totally. She looks like a super model. Talent can always be contrived, but to me it would just make more sense if she was just a model (less noise pollution, too).

Same think with Faith Hill. I think Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris are the ones who should be insulted that people are comparing Shania Twain and Faith Hill to them.

Oh well.

My normal reply to artists that think their status makes their opinions so much more valuable than mine is to quote Laura Ingraham:

Shut up and sing.

But in this case, it doesn't sound like her comments were meant to be offensive.

That would be fine, but remember it's the public and reporters who ask the questions and their opinion in the first place.

During a concert, it can get annoying though.

I think her comment on the Nursing profession was answered on a basis of her 2nd best career choice because it is very difficult to break into being a famous singer.

Like Jennifer Lopez once said, if she wouldn't have pursued acting and singing, she thought she'd be an accountant or a lawyer.:coollook:
