I don't usually sit around watching junk on tv but last night I was trapped at work with nothing to do. So I found this show called "Country Music Divas." Since I am curious as to what, besides looks, women like Faith Hill and Shania Twain have(I'm not saying these women aren't perfectly likeable and nice, but I just don't see the talent) I thought I would watch and see what all the fuss over them was about.
So Faith Hill was talking about moving to Nashville and seeing how hard it was going to be in the music business. She said she asked her mother "Maybe I should just go be a *nurse* or something?...ha ha ha."
I know in this world everyone is looking for something to get offended at, and maybe she didn't mean it the way it sounded, but it just kind of irked me. Like people with no brains or talent or drive become nurses "or something"..ha ha ha.
(By the way, after watching the program I *still* don't see what the fuss over these women is about.)
I didn't see the show and I'm not trying to ruffle feathers BUT....
maybe she was laughing b/c she knows she'd be a terrible nurse and that she's not cut out for the job. Maybe she was laughing at herself. Why do people always get so offended at even the smallest comment? I really doubt she was meaning it in a hateful way.

I am sure that no harm was meant by her comment. I would have to think that it meant that maybe instead of venturing out into the world of stardom where many people never make it, that perhaps she should pursue a career in something that was more grounded and stable.
As far as what the big deal is with these her, I can totally see it. She is talented and beautiful and has overcome many obstacles in her life. She was raised by a poor adopted family, with parents who were illiterate. Through all of that, she managed to excel and become a success. Not only to mention, she is a wonderful mother who has put her family before her career. I think that is to be admired.
I can't stand Shania Twain's "music". All of her songs sound the same. Too poppy, lyrics are redundant, gag. Then again, i tend not to like the mainstream stuff. I also tend to be annoyed by those that say can't stand the fame, the press conferences, whine whine whine, yet have NO problem cashing the checks for it.
Anyway, i doubt FH's comment was meant as a slam. But i could see how the wording of it could be perceived as nursing being easier than singing.
Pardon my ignorance, but who is Faith Hill? I never set eyes on her before. I'm being honest here. Guess she doesn't make that much of impession on people as she seems to think that she does.
Faith Hill is a country singer with pop (not rock) leanings. In my opinion, her music tends to be quite prefabricated and commercialized. Trust me, you ain't missing anything.

"Where's Mojo Nixon when we need him?"
Wow, saw the same interview, and that's not how I took the comment at all. First let me say that I'm not a big Faith Hill fan, but the tv was on while I was suring the net and I listened while working on other things. What I got from the comment was that most people who pursue a carrer in music do not succeed,& maybe she should consider a carreer where one can almost always be assured of steady work. We've all made the joke about having job security, after all people are always going to need nursing care. I was raised in the south, in a small community, just as she was, and I was constantely pushed to consider nursing or teaching - that's probably why I did not become a nurse until I was in my 30's, couldn't prove my mother right after all.:chuckle She was probably told that nursing was an excellent career choice, and her comment stemmed from that. I did not find the comment offensive at all.
I saw the interview and it bugged me for about 3 seconds. People make off the cuff comments all the time. I know I said one time (to my mom, no less) that school was too hard so I was just going to stand on the street corner and make that my career. I was only joking of course and mom did find it funny.
I understand where you're coming from. It kinda makes me cringe to hear my profession talked about like that. What's the fuss you ask? I'm not a Faith Hill fan, but she's made a could of good songs like "Breathe", "This Kiss" and "Let's Make Love".
Shania Twain on the other hand has made some of the best pop music in late 90s early 2000's. Hit, after hit, after hit. Here album "Come On Over" is one of the best selling albums in the world, of all time, with about 20 million or so sold. Her songs are catchy and fun. I love her. And she's gorgeous.
i agree, i like Shania (and i am VERY choosy about country cuz it ain't my fave) Faith is ok,but nothing to write home about for me, and I wouldn't ever buy anything from her at this point, maybe her cutie pie hubby though... It was a demeaning remark, but at the same time that is how a lot of folks view nurses . I gotta go dig out my "come on over" CD, it's been awhile, I can blast "honey I'm home" while i clean!:chuckle

I agree with you . . . . it was meant to suggest that she should have chosen a different and more stable career.
Not a slam . . .
I think Shania is quite beautiful BUT all her songs sound exactly the same.
Faith is also beautiful but she is tooo pop for me.

Not nice comment. I don't care for her talent either.
