Faith Hill makes fun of nurses!

Published

I don't usually sit around watching junk on tv but last night I was trapped at work with nothing to do. So I found this show called "Country Music Divas." Since I am curious as to what, besides looks, women like Faith Hill and Shania Twain have(I'm not saying these women aren't perfectly likeable and nice, but I just don't see the talent) I thought I would watch and see what all the fuss over them was about.

So Faith Hill was talking about moving to Nashville and seeing how hard it was going to be in the music business. She said she asked her mother "Maybe I should just go be a *nurse* or something?...ha ha ha."

I know in this world everyone is looking for something to get offended at, and maybe she didn't mean it the way it sounded, but it just kind of irked me. Like people with no brains or talent or drive become nurses "or something"..ha ha ha.

(By the way, after watching the program I *still* don't see what the fuss over these women is about.)

... I also think both those artists are hot!...

Absolutely! That's a huge part of their success. Neither is a fantastic vocalist. (FWIW, I'd consider Linda Ronstadt a fab singer.)

While Shania was considerably hotter after breaking through nationally, Faith has her beat these days looks-wise. Still, to me, Shania is the bigger talent -- writes her own material, sings more naturally, and puts on a better performance.

Is it just me, or does everyone seem to be taking shots at nurses lately?

Have I gotten hypersensitive to the negative spin our profession is receiving lately?

Probably-everyone is fair game in the entertainment industry. They'll make fun of anyone to get a laugh....Let's not take ourselves too seriously. The real problem lies in the general public's ignorance regarding what nurses REALLY do and it's up to us to educate them while caring for them.but Let's give them give a little credit for recognizing satire in a movie or tv show

Well since it appears that anyone can make a hit song about anything these days, maybe WE should look into music careers!! It would certainly be more lucrative! Sheesh. I don't see the "talent" in these women either- altho I like some of Shania's music, it has all begun to sound alike. Add Sheryl Crowe to that mix too!! :angryfire

I will give Sheryl Crow the credit that she can also play a musical instrument. The same cannot be said for J. Lo. or whatever her name is this week.

Gotta love Rondstadt, who sings Hank Williams and Puccini. I'm a big fan of Emmylou Harris, too. Not to impressed with Faith or Shania, but either of them could ride in my truck. If I had one.

As far as the naughty nurse business, I spent most of nursing school wondering when the pillow fight would be.

I seem to recall from some movie, long ago, that nursing students--er, excuse me: student nurses--have pillow fights in their undies.

:melody: well, i like to turn on my tunes real loud in the car (and shower :D ) and sing....

i'm not too sure how "audioslave, coldplay, thornley and nickleback" would feel about how i sing their tunes.

it's doubtful that i'd make it big in the music industry but i also doubt that someone like faith hill (even though i don't even know who she is) would be satisfied in the nursing profession. how do you express yourself artistically as a nurse? i'd sing to the patients but isn't the goal to get them better?

You probably sound much better than Nickleback. They are so overrated and the leader singer is dreadful. I'd rather listen to sharp fingernails now a blackboard than his dreadful voice. :lol2:

I make fun of Faith Hill all the time.

at the risk of getting serious a moment, i really endorse the idea of nursing as both an art and a science. you can learn a lot of the science from textbooks, but it reminds me a lot of my former career in carpentry, in that you can spend a lifetime learning the art. or, at least, that's how it looks to this rookie.

as much as i enjoy those seemingly rare moments when i know just exactly what to do, what really gives me a charge are those (also kinda rare) flashes of inspiration when you just "feel" what's happening and how to proceed.

not that there isn't probably an art to driving a big rig, too. a lot of jobs appear to include elements of intuition.

If you can write tunes of the caliber of Shania's, you've got major talent.

Shoot me one of those puppies. I'll go half-sies on the royalties with ya!
