anyone here become a nurse after majoring in business adminstration? anyone here switch out of RN school to become a business major? what was it like? how hard was the transition? based on your experiences what would you reccomend for someone who is having doubts about continuing RN school?

Specializes in Surgical ICU, Anesthesia.

I'm an economics major that is going back to school for nursing. Actually, I spent seven years between two different companies in a corporate role after graduating with my first degree. The transition to nursing school has not been difficult at all. I spent the last two years before enrolling this past May taking pre-reqs so by the time I started the program, I was more than ready. What side of the fence are you on? Corporate America to Nursing or the other way around? Just doing research and that's all?

i'm in nursing trying to get into corporate america. i failed my second semester RN school. i thought of doing something else.

dont settle for "corporate" america. stick with nursing.

I had an MBA before I came into nursing. I miss my IT days, witty programmers and the comradery.

As a nurse I feel like a glorified waitress. I have to work with angry, hostile harried unimaginative co-workers who are out to get you. The knees ache too!

Specializes in Tele Step Down, Oncology, ICU, Med/Surg.

Just a BSN student in my final year, have a prior BS in Business and 12 years doing sales and marketing for a major apparel company. I can tell I will miss having my own desk and ergonomic computer set up. I tend to need a place to call my own and a dusty stinger cart with no space for a mouse to rest in a busy hallway just doesn't cut it for me.

At the same time, I am an a high energy gal who never felt comfortable chained to a desk and a phone for long periods of time, and that's what I spent a lot of time doing in my corporate life. If you are young, you can always switch around or incorporate both careers somehow. Don't give up just because you had one set back.

Specializes in home care, catastrophic case mgmt.

Have any of you thought about starting your own busienss as a nurse entrepreneur? There are options to corporate America.

Like what?

I obtained a BS in Bus Adm prior to going into nursing. I was never able to use the business degree to obtain employment. I switched to nursing because I always wanted to do nursing and also because I wanted to get work.

Specializes in acute rehab, med surg, LTC, peds, home c.

In my experience, my co-workers are the best part of my job. They can make or break any facility/floor you work on. If they are nice, they can make a horrendous floor livable. If they are nasty, they can make a relatively light work load a living hell. Nurses, for the most part are some of the funniest, coolest people I know

If you hate nursing so bad, why not leave, you have a MBA correct. you should be able to work in a field that allows you to be happy and productive. Not all nurses go through the same experiences that you maybe having, so I would not generalize. With a MBA I dont know if you know this or not but you can also do other things beside patient care
