Ok, I know we should be frugal after we graduate and invest in retirement, pay off debt and student loans, etc. However, for a little fun, what kinds of things do you look forward to buying after you graduate and are working as a nurse?
For me: a Dyson vacuum cleaner ($500) and a set of NARS blushes ($200), the best blush on the planet. I've also been fixated on buying a Mini Cooper:
I suspect I'll buy the Dyson and NARS, but the Mini Cooper may just not be a good financial choice.
So what do you all want to buy?
My husband sold his Harley when I lost my job and decided to go back to school. I want to buy him another Harley. Also, my Harley is sitting in the garage, uninsured, so I'd like to be able to pay the insurance on it so I can ride it, maybe sell it and upgrade to a bigger bike....ah, someday...
The first thing I will buy is an expensive knife set and copper pots and pans for my chef husband. He's so supportive and these are the only things he wants, so he deserves them.
The rest not necessarily in order...
Saving up for my husband and I to buy a house hopefully with some solar panels or a windmill even. Someone down the road has a windmill. Pretty neat.
A hybrid or electric car. We suck up too much gas working in the city and living in the country. Can't do all electric living in an apartment, so if the house comes first, then the electric car.
New furniture! Our furniture is like 50 years old because it was given to us by his grandma's friend. Not the mattress though, that's brand new.
A honeymoon. We never got one.
Health insurance! We don't have that.
I'm going to buy my mom an English Bulldog puppy. She has always been in love with them and has always wanted one. Purebreds are like $1500, but I think that's a small chunk of change to spend on a mom who is incredibly supportive. Of course, if she gets a nursing job before me she will beat me to it, lol.
The rest will be in savings. We'll be starting a family 2 or 3 years after I graduate.
My first thing is a housekeeper! My house is too big and I don't have nearly enough time, so I would LOVE the extra help once a week! Also, my son is in freshman football next year, and we'll need the extra $$$$ for all that goes with it, not to mention the fact that we can barely afford to feed him now! LOL - his little bro is on his way too. Lord help me, I just want a maid.
When I graduate...I want to put a new additon on my house, redo my kitchen and bathrooms, and put up a garage. Then I an LED tv, a plasma tv, a wii, a playstation 3, a new car (Ford flex is my current favourite), I want to save money for retirement, enroll my kid in organized sporting programs, make a movie room out of my basement, and travel....boy would I just love to travel to different countries and experience the culture, food and music of other people....sooo good....fun times!
When I graduate and am working, my first goal is to get any outstanding debts paid off - be free and clear. Once that's done, I want a house that will be big enough for my kids and me. I completely agree with the vacation idea for the whole family. They'll deserve it if we all manage to make it through the next 2 years in one piece each! My other big thing will be a decent, reliable vehicle that will fit myself and my kids. The only other thing that would possibly be on the list would be to have some money saved up to help the kids with their college/university tuition (not pay for it, but to help them a little bit).
My sister got her license last summer. So far, she's spent most of her nurse's gold on traveling.
I'd also like to eliminate my debt, set up a conservative savings structure and look for a house.
Then I'd focus on things I've always wanted to do. I'd travel, go on awesome hunting and fishing trips with my dad, probably get a motorcycle. Then I'd probably look into furthering my education or career.
But "becoming a nurse" and having a nursing job that pays anything are two completely different things in this day and age!

It is sooooo expensive. My son is a freshman football player this year (starts in August) but they started weight training and practice right off the bat. Fees for this and that and can only miss so many days so our summer vacation is cut short. Huge change from Middle School :|
When i believe a nurse i want to buy the life i never had! first of course bills because i have a wonderful hubby who has been paying all the bills alone:crying2: then i will get a small 4 door car like a honda accord 07' with AC bc we dont have AC in our Cars now. I want to save a portion of each of my checks to go toward paying off my credit cards....then once those are paid off I want to buy a new car. Probably a Chevy Traverse or some kind of nice midsize suv with 7-8 seats. I can't wait to have a big enough car for the kids, the dog, and any friends to sit comfortably. I also can't wait to be able to pay the bills, go to the grocery store and buy food without feeling like I'm going to go into the negative just to get what we need, and still maybe have enough left over for some extras through the week. I don't think that's asking for too much! I would also LOVE to take my family on vacations....first place is to the smokey mountains, then in a few years after debt is paid off and we have some savings, I want to take them to Disney World!
