For Fun - Things You Want to Buy Once You're a Nurse

Published

Ok, I know we should be frugal after we graduate and invest in retirement, pay off debt and student loans, etc. However, for a little fun, what kinds of things do you look forward to buying after you graduate and are working as a nurse?

For me: a Dyson vacuum cleaner ($500) and a set of NARS blushes ($200), the best blush on the planet. I've also been fixated on buying a Mini Cooper:

I suspect I'll buy the Dyson and NARS, but the Mini Cooper may just not be a good financial choice.

So what do you all want to buy?

First thing will be a vacation for the family! The kids haven't gotten to go on a REAL vacation since they were too little to remember!!

Build a nice home

Have a REAL savings account :)

Just about a month left and I'M DONE!!!! Graduation gift to myself--new coach purse.....when I get hired somewhere and get a few paychecks---a new car and relieving my hubbys stress of paying all the bills!

I certainly have a list, lol.

1 move out of mom's house!

2 laser eye surgery

3 buy a car

4 get braces

5 go on a cruise

6 travel around the world

7 buy a dog

it can go one...lol

a new 5 bedroom 4 bath house built from the ground up including new bedroom furniture for the twins (to replace their hand-me-downs), a hot tub, walk in closets, two car garage, huge back yard with a tree house for the twins, custom sub-zero kitchen with double wall ovens, a full set of le creuset cookware, new high thread count sheets, new towels. The husband wants a fireman's pole from our bedroom to the garage... we shall see.

I wanna travel, new destination everytime I have a vacation :)

And my teen bro just made me promise that I'mm take him, sis and mom to the carabean for a family vac. once I get a good job :)

My husband and I love the Sandals resorts in the Caribbean, and every time we go, we can only stay a few days. When I graduate and start making money, I want us to go for like 2 weeks! Also, I want a new Chevy Camero, and of course a house of our own:)

I like this post!

Within 5 years of graduating i'd like a Mercedes. But in reality, ill probably be responsible and get a more affordable and economical car since my 03 vibe will have about 170K miles on it by then.

I'd also like to get a pair of really cute christian loubaton heels, a nice handbag, and some new furniture :)

AND I'd like to be able to put my house on the market, and either by a new house or build one.

An annual vacation would be nice too......

Maybe i shouldnt be spending my money before its earned lol.

and i dont care if i sound shallow for wanting a few "high" end things, the rest of my crap comes from walmart :coollook:

fun thread!

1. Nice vacation for the family

2. Romantic vacation for my boyfriend and I

3. Help the BF pay off some of his CC since he is putting me through school right now. Love him...Good guy.

4. Save for a wedding if BF ever plans to propose...what is taking him so long??? :p

5. Save for a house!!!

My first and foremost thing that I have promised my family is a Disney World Vacation. Flying there and back, park-hopper passes, dining package, and lots of souveniers. For 7 days.

Well, as for me... I owe my parents (mostly my mom) money. So, obviously they will get a portion. ASSUMING I pass nursing school, pass NCLEX and get a job/career. I want the following for me (in time):

A realistic, organized budget list (includes cost of living --utilities, etc.),

A sensible car (Nissan sentra, Toyota Corolla, or a nice Chevy),

A nice apartment, since I'm NOT ready to sign away my life into a 30-year contract,

Money for savings, retirement, and a 'fun fund' (vacation, stuff, miscellaneous)

Money for educational purposes.

Something extra. Whatever is left, goes to savings. Have money for presents for holidays and such, only for certain people.

*** IF I EVER win the lottery, THEN, I'll have a longer list! But, the only thing that will be constant is the money for savings and important things. I can live without driving a porsche (don't want one anyway) or a beamer *****

Oh... things I'm looking forward to...

Just being able to pay bills and have "something" left over for things we need or want. Not having to worry when something breaks and "how we're going to afford to replace it". AND PAYING OFF THE CREDIT CARDS. We don't have that much credit card debt thankfully, so paying it off won't take that long.

Taking my daughter on some AWESOME vacations around the world when she's old enough to remember and have a good time. I am DETERMINED to get to Australia. I know I should include my husband, but really, he complains too much about everything that isn't "normal" like home in the US. I really don't want every vacation to revolve around fishing or hunting to keep him happy either.

Finally be able to finish the top floor of our house and increase the square footage... give my daughter a great bedroom (and us a great master bedroom).

Get a "newer" car. I don't care if its not brand new... in fact, I hate car payments.

Having enough money in the bank to set up automated payments for everything and not having to sit down for hours every month to pay the bill and stress myself out.

Eventually... maybe a boob job... most definitely a nose job at some point and some skin treatments for my broken blood vessels in my face from delivery. My face is red all the time now and I hate it.

Oh, and having health insurance that doesn't cost us $600 per month through my husbands job. Good grief. That'll be a nice chunk of savings right there.

Oh yeah, since I work from home now sewing custom window treatments and bedding, etc my whole basement is my workroom. I can't wait to get rid of everything except one sewing machine and actually use my basement. I'm actually hoping to get a job as a CNA or something after my first semester and stop doing this as my main job soon. I am SICK of it.
