Field Day

Published

OMG!!! Today is our field day.

Good thoughts my way today

Field day survivor here! We had ours Tuesday. Bouncy houses and water slide, only one injury one water slide, a few abrasions at the bouncy houses. We had some very diligent PTO parents watching those kids, esp on the water slide (broken arm and ankle last year).

Yes we had bounce houses on Monday, only 4 injuries nothing major. Tuesday was the 3rd & 4th grade field trip to the water park (the entire district). Now field day. :dead:

I should have asked my doctor for some Xanax this week (hehehehhehe) :roflmao:

You see, we have outdoor gym all year round (including the winter most of the time) because we currently do not have a gym.

I have gone through so many ice packs.

I am at a middle school, no field day praise Jesus!!! However, with 1300 kids and wild PE classes - I see it ALL YEAR LONG!

Mine was last Friday... Every time I sat down to chart my woes on AN, I got a call on the radio with a VERY vague medical complaint from outside and had to respond. I was running all day! Nothing serious. It was fun, nice to go outside so much!!

That day is what made me decide to hold a mandatory 20 minute inservice at the beginning of the next school year before the kids start. I am going to detail IN FULL what needs to be communicated over the walkie talkie when there is an "emergency" I need to respond to. Topics will include "if the kid can walk, send him/her to my office" and "don't be vague and say 'We have a serious injury on the playground' and then not respond to the rest of my questions because I need to know what is going on!" among others!

Today is my field day. I should have thought about making more ice

It's Field Day here, too, but luckily because of rain it was moved to our gym with a shortened schedule

I sometimes feel guilty that I despise Field Day so much, I mean, as a nurse, I'm supposed to be enthusiastic about anything that allows our kids to be physically active and have fun, but it is never fun for me! Ice packs, phone calls home, the list goes on and on...

I'll be glad when it's over! Good to know I'm not the only one that dreads Field Day!!! ;)

Ours is military like, boot camp style. Kids who barely get off the sofa are supposed to scale walls, lift truck tires and run mile courses. Then there is twirl and hurl. The most gross food you can think of, with the accompanying puking. My wife and I were the school nurses before we had a school nurse on field days past. I have a lot to not like about this day. Saving grace? Half day!

Our field day was today. Thanks to the torrential rain we've been having here in TX, it was moved inside. The kids had inflatables in the gym, and "Minute to Win It" games in the cafeteria. I was sad that we weren't going to have all of our outdoor activities, but I only had one injury today from field day, and it was a nice day to work on end of the year stuff in the clinic.

Every school nurse's nightmare field day. Thank you, Lord, the circuit board died before a student could ride.

The dreaded day has arrived! I have a freezer full of ice packs and tons of band-aids at the ready! Hoping no one faints from the fumes of color hair spray and fingernail polish...

Field Day Casualties: 1 broken finger, 1 laceration needing sutures (staff), 1 ? broken foot (to be evaluated this afternoon)

SO glad it's only once a year.

Oh, I ran out of ice for the first time.

Yikes!! That's crazy!
