For about 4 or 5 days now I get this sensation like a pill is loged in my throat, like I swallowed it, but it didn't go down. It doesn't hurt, but is quite anoying. By night time I feel like I'm going to go mad. Has anyone heard of what this might be? Or how to stop it? Also I just started taking Zoloft. Could this cause it?

Rica, these all sound like very good questions for you to ask your doctor.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

My mother used to have that. About drove her nuts too. Her doctor couldn't find anything wrong and told her he thought it was "nerves", and must have been true cause it went away but would return periodically when she was stressed. Also had times when she felt she couldn't swallow.
I read a book by Dr. Andrew Weil, where he said that "until proven otherwise, most digestive problems should be assumed to be rooted in stress, because the mind has an unlimited capacity to interfere with normal operation of the GI system by disturbing the balance of the autonomic nerves that regulate it"

This sounds like one of the symptoms I had when I had reflux. I would go see a doctor. An ENT is who diagnosed it for me. Good luck to you, hope you feel better!!

Difficulty swallowing should be evalauated by a doctor ASAP. Don't speculate it could be nerves..it could be something major too......make an apointment today. Best wishes and hope its minor.
I am under allot of stress, so hopefully that's all it is. I will make an apt. in the morning just to be on the safe side. Thanx for the responses!

it would be helpful if you elaborated on what that was randy.
globus hystericus is a psychosomatic disorder which is characterized by a chronic lump (thus, globus) in one's throat r/t acute anxiety, but is not true dysphagia.
it is commonly known to be a sequelae of an anxiety disorder and is manifested by what you are describing.
if your anxieties are prominent, you might want to see a psychologist.
good luck.

However, just chalking it up to stress is jumping to conclusions as well.
I have a relative who c/o a "lump" in her throat. Dr. #1 gave her Valium for her "stress."
It was Dr. #2 who found the node on her thyroid.
Please have it checked out, rica.

I had this for many months before I was diagnosed with GERD. I saw a GP and an ENT who told me nothing was wrong. Then I started having severe heartburn and ended up in the ED getting shot of Demerol I was in so much pain. Saw a Gastroenterologist the next day and was diagnosed and put on a PPI.

Can you describe the pain? Was it substernal? GERD can do that, wow. I had pain a couple times two years ago in my chest and I was sweating and pale. A family didn't take me to the ER because they didn't feel well either (lovely). Anyway, it happened twice and I just chalked it up to esophageal spasm. (love to self-diagnose).
Anyway, haven't had it since but I know it wasn't wise to have it checked out.
