For about 4 or 5 days now I get this sensation like a pill is loged in my throat, like I swallowed it, but it didn't go down. It doesn't hurt, but is quite anoying. By night time I feel like I'm going to go mad. Has anyone heard of what this might be? Or how to stop it? Also I just started taking Zoloft. Could this cause it?

I am at this time having the same problem. I've had a recent URI as or Nov 18 and have had a chronic cough since. I also complained of a lump or pressure sensation to the left of my thyroid. My PCP told me it was nothing, never addressed the chronic cough and told me to go and read about Globus Hystericus. He did though set me up for lab work, a Thyroid US and uptake with scan. The Thyroid uptake and scan were normal as was my lab work but on US there was a 1.5cm NODE. I was referred to an ENT. He fouond nothing but had the report. I've had an US core biopsy(NOT PLEASANT). I know that it is not Thyroiditis and not Papillary carcinoma. It is Follicular Epithelium. The ENT says I should not be able to feel this because he could not palpate it yet it was where I told them of the choking sensation(pill stuck feeling) and that this continues into my upper chest. I am seeing an Endocrinologist on Tuesday and have all my records, films and Path slides. I am not crazy but have felt and feel like I can't stand my own skin. I have been very anxious and am not usually this way. I take no medications not even vitamins nor am I a smoker or seldom drink anything. I know I will probably have to have the node removed to rule out Follicular Carcinoma.

I have had this same maddening symptom for YEARS. I've been MRI'd, been scoped, and been palpated several times. I think my doctor(s) think I am imagining the whole thing but it's there and I can feel it and noone else can seem to find a cause. I can't think of a thing that I do, eat or take that might aggravate it. It comes and it goes. I wish you the best of luck figuring out what it is! If you do, please let me know!

So with your node do you feel this "lump" all of the time, or does the "lump in the throat" sensation come and go?
Im having the same problems, as well. The sensation comes and goes, and does seem to get worse with stress. I tried a little valium which did seem to help, but never completely took it away.
I have the same problem, too. In addition to that lump feeling, I am clearing out my throat all the time, and am able to spit out thick, yellow secretions (sometimes brownish to bloody). Went to the EENT, had MRI of sinuses (which was negative), nasal swab showed microorganisms treated with levaquin, and was advised to do nasal irrigation. Now, I am still experiencing the same symptoms.

Funny you should mention Valium---I went to bed Friday night after getting the non-Papillary cancer report feeling better but still had the sensation in my neck and chest. I awoke on Saturday and I mean on awakening was the worst I have been so far--I could not cope--My skin was crawling--I was a nervous wreck--my throat and upper chest still had the same sensations.
I am not a pill person but found a RX for Valium 10mg. This seemed to calm me some but DID NOT RELIEVE THE SENSATION!! This sensation in the last 60+ days never goes away--but does fluctuate.

This has been happening to me for months. Sometimes I won't even notice it for weeks, and then it kicks in again. I'm a little concerned.
I just had a TSH drawn. If there's a problem, I'm hoping it will show something. I don't know if it is stress/anxiety based (which is very possible, over the last year). I still have some Valium, but I'm saving it for when it really gets bad.
Did you have any swallowing problems with this?
I'm surprised that so many of us seem to be dealing with this.
I don't have swallowing problems, but have this pressure against my throat that gives me the added sensation to cough. The only long term problem that I have had is the inablility to wear my stethoscope, jewelry of any weight, some turtlenecks and even my leather jacket affects me. I put lead on to help with a peds heart cath and the weight on my neck area caused me to almost blackout. I had my vessels checked but found nothing. My thyroid studies are all normal but because of the nonthyroid node I have been referred to Endocrinology. I was told that low normals on thyroid studies can still cause thyroid dysfunction.

That would be horribly frustrating! I hope you get this resolved quickly!
I have a problem too!!! The other night I ate salmon at a restaurant and I felt fine. The next day I felt a prickly feeling down in my throat (not in the back of my mouth), but it lasted for a couple of minutes and then went away. The next day and now today, it has gotten worse. I can swallow, eat, talk, breath, cough just fine...it's just that the feeling is very irritating to the point of I want to scream. I've tried coughing, eating bread, drinking hot water. NOTHING HELPS ANDTHE PAIN FEELS LIKE IT MOVES SOMETIMES. I don't have insurance and so going to the doctor is my last resort. I am TERRIFIED (imagine anxiety attacks) of throwing up. (emetaphobia) I really think it is a fish bone. ANYONE WITH HOME REMEDIES ADVICE??? If I have to go to the hospital is there a procedure a doctor can do that will not cause me to gag or throw up...possible put me in a DEEP sleep???
