Should I volunteer?
I have been a volunteer at PV Hospital for quite some time, it's a great place! And while working there, I found out about their nursing program. I am going to obtain my CNA in the summer, and get hired on there. They will not only pay for my scooling, but they put your work schedule around your school schedule so you can go to school, work, and still have a life! I'm sure every hospital has their own program similar to this.... so go talk to a recruter. Volunteering is a great way to meet the staff under the friendliest of terms! You get treated very well by all the staff! At PV we got one free meal a day... that's probibly standerd also! Good luck!

What Ive noticed...
I'm at a community college in Phoenix, and a D is as bad as an F. I know I wouldn't want a nurse that is happy about perfoming less than average to work on me! I suppose that's why statiscally only half make it through the program.

Good Hospitals For New Grads in Phoenix
If your an employee of the hospital you can enter their nursing program and they pay for all of your edu. That means if you qualify for grants... it's $$$ in your pocket you don't have to payback. You can always transfer at a later semester if you want. If you want full info, the e-mail address is....... [email protected] Nancy Webber They go through numerous diffrent colleged it seems... I'm going to go to a seminar here real soon. PVCC also has a great nursing program. That's where I attend until I get my CNA next spring so I can work at the hosp.

Good Hospitals For New Grads in Phoenix
I volunteer at Paridise Vally Hosp... and I love it there. I've decided to get into their nursing program to finish out my school. It's small, but their expanding, and the staff there is awsome! Being a volunteer that isn't either 80 or 18 they bounce me all over the hospital and give me duties they normally wouldn't hand out, I have been working all the departments, and evryone there is awsome. They are very short-handed for ER nurses!

Nurse doing cocaine HELP
:angryfire This really upsets me. she is in the medical profession, and yet is putting herself, your friend, and her pt's in harms way! Should you report her? Most certainly! I have been a cocaine user in the past, and what I learned from it is anyone who uses coke or meth is a liar and theif. I asssure you that if she has keys to the med cabinet, she will take some out for her pleasure. Coke inhibits your judgement even when your not high. You offten think of new and intresting ways to enhance your high because after so many uses it becomes boring and you do it just to do it. So you look for new things to do with it, such as using with alchol. or smoking, shooting, ect. I'm not proud of my past, but luckily I survived it with a lot of life's lessons learned. And I can tell you as a past user coke turns you into a totally diffrent person, and you can not be trusted. When your friend wakes-up (hopefully) and realizes that you reported her because she's proven herself careless (if she'll do it infront of you, she'll get careless elsewhere) he'll come and seek out your friendship with his tail between his legs. I know it has been a while since you posted this, but if you haven't done anything, please don't blow it off. If I were in your shoes I would say something. Reasoning with someone using coke is impossible, so talking to her or your friend is useless. But innocent people's lives are in her hands, and so is an endless supply of drugs. :flamesonb

Good Hospitals for New Grads in Tucson
just try to stay out of kino! they are all homeless, illegals, beyond poor, ect. not to sound discriminatory, they need help too, but it is on the far south side of town where it is very poverty stricken, and i've heard it is really hard to work there.

Salary for new graduates
it is very dry here. but for 3-4 months out of the year, it is very hot!!! thank goodness for A.C.!!!!! i live in northern phoenix, around greenway and 7th street. it is a pretty quite neighborhood, lower crime than central, perioa is also quite. most of scottsdale is low-crime, but very expensive. it doesn't take to long to get anywhere with all the freeways. as long as it's not rush-hour. look on forrent.com and go to nofrther-phoenix. i am looking at a 2 bedroom/ 1 bath for $605 a month, and these are luxury apartments with backyards. www.forrent.com/saratogaridge i wish the pictures could show how beautiful the grounds eally are. i have lived in this area for 1 1/2 years, if you want to e-mail me [email protected] good luck! erika

Tattoo's on Nurses
tatt's aree so common place now, whyat's the big deal? i am doing my pre-req's with a lot of other RN majors that have full sleeves. most places don't care. they may preferr you wear a long sleeve shirt or under shirt to hide them a bit, but most pt's don't care because who under 40 doesn't have them anymore? i'd say, don't show them during an interveiw, and don't make it a point to show them off on the clock!

salary ranges in tucson
I was born and raised in Tucson. I now live in Phoenix. I would say to steer clear of Kino. Nothing but troubble out there. Plus it is on the south-side. Univ. Med. is supposed to be good, as well as Tucson Med Center. I had m y daughter @ TMC, it was a bad experience, but that was 10 years ago, and the have made a lot of improvements. Currently I am volunteering @ Paradise Valley Hospital in Phoenix. I was supposed to be in endoscopy, but time ran short with paper work going through (my fault). It is a real nice hospital. I could tell you more of pros and cons between Tucon and Phoenix if you'd like. My e-mail [email protected] I go down to Tucon 1-2 times a month to visit freinds. Also look at the Arizona forum. Navapache???
I am a student in Phoenix @ PVCC, but before I lived here, I was 20 miles east of Snowflake, near Concho. I lived on the west side of Mesa Redando, if you know where that is. It is way behind Show Low Heights, in the middle of B.F.E. My ex is still out there and working in Show Low, and the kids miss him. I would consider moving there or Pinetop so they would be closer to him. I was a bartender @ R.T.'s Black Bull for a while, and talked to alot of travel nurses that came in after shift. They loved it there.

Navapache???

moving to arizona from UK
Just a little F.Y.I. for you. Bullhead City gets hotter than Phoenix, and because it is next to the river, it is humid as #$@*!!! Drug use is real high there also. It's a good place to go if your bartending, but I would look into it more before moving there. True that Phoenix is a sweat box for 3 months, but the rest of the year is beautiful. Summer months you stay inside. There is bad weather anywhere. If you know of a place where it is perfect all year round, let me know! I do want to relocate to cooler climates after graduation.

Retaking classes
I started pre-req's @ PVCC this semester. My understanding is that when you take a class over again, your second try cancells out your first. My bio partner is taking chem for the second time because she got a "D". The second time grade will go on her transcripts. Did you know, you have to have a 3.8 or higher to get into the nursing program at ASU? Ouch! It's that competitive
