  1. I apologize for choking so badly. I have no idea how I thought I was prepared when in reality I was the furthest thing from prepared. Wow, what a time suck that was for you guys, I am so very sorry. I really honestly thought I had it together, HA! Geez, that was a bad interview! ~April~
  2. I'm not a nurse yet, but I have BEEN a confused pt. When my 2nd DD was born I woke in the middle of the night and asked my DH what time it was. He said 12. If he'd have said midnight none of this would have happened. I called the poor nurses demanding to know where my lunch was! sheesh! Same hospital stay, different day, different nurses. I called down because there was no sanitary napkin belt in my night stand drawer. :sstrs: I wasn't very old at the time (21) and am not even really sure how I knew what that even was, I've never seen one and certainly never used one. Pain meds and sleep deprivation will make ya do weird crap! LOL I think everyone on that floor was ready to see me go home, or worried for me to go home
  3. Never mind!! LOL I asked this question 3 years ago!!! OMG, what a dork!
  4. Hi all! Finals are over and I can breathe again! Yipee! I have a question. I have 4 tattoo's any of which could possibly show in scrubs. None of which would show fully. 1 is on the back of my neck and I have long hair, but even with my hair pulled up my shirt covers most of it. The other 3 are on my upper arm area where my sleeve would cover it unless my sleeves came all the way up like a tank top almost. Like, if I wear a top with cap sleeves you can see a little of it. The one on my neck is a sun, moon and stars. The ones on my arm are 3 Kanji symbols. So, finally, here's my question, is this something that a hospital will flat out not hire a nurse over? In all my hospital stays I've never seen a nurse with a visible tattoo, or at least never noticed it. Does anyone have any experience with it? Thanks!
  5. Have you thought about HH in Abilene? My dad owns a HH out there (I think they have an office in Brownwood too, I know they do in Big Spring and El Paso). We've been to Abilene and LOVE the area!
  6. Yes and no, of course, this is only my experience as a PATIENT! I was in the hospital 3 days with my twins, which were born on a Saturday (I think, LOL). There was not a "main" lactation nurse there specifically for that on the weekends, although one happened to be there on the floor- does that make any sense? Now, on Monday there was a nurse there ONLY for lactation visits. Also, I was able to go back to the hospital at anytime Mon- Fri business hrs to the lactation dept to see someone and have the babies weighed and what not. I went OFTEN! And called often! To the point that if they hadn't heard from me by noon they called me! LOL (Hope I wasn't a PITA patient, lol). So, hospital time is limited and if a mom isn't able/ willing to go back in or to call then time is really limited. But if someone is willing to get the support, I would hope it would be available to them. Yeah, I would/ will be bummed out by a mother saying bf is gross and that they didn't want to do it. At the same time there are MANY struggles that can come up with it! And it helps to have someone to help you through them! (I think I'm turning into an activist, LOL) Thanks! :)
  7. Not real sure if this is the right area to put this or not, LOL. I am still a student now, but want to go into lactation. We have a local hospital that is only for women and the lactation dept there is GREAT! I was able to nurse my twins until they self weaned at *almost* 3!! Thanks to the ladies there! The nurses at our hospital said they all started in Mother/ Baby for X amount of time and then additional hours of classes. Is anyone here in lactation? What do you dislike about it? What is your favorite aspect of it? Do you have someone available 24/ 7? Thanks!
  8. I'm pretty new here- my 4th post, but I'd like to state my opinion. I live in the DEEP South and our C-sec rates are through the roof and our breastfeeding rates are WAY down. I myself have had 4- yes 4 C-sec, I have hated them ALL, I honestly believe they were all done for the Dr's convenience. Birth has been so medicalized (is that a real word?), I think a lot of people need to step back and realize that as women our bodies CAN (MOST of the time) do what they are designed to do. Sure, there's pain, sure it's messy, sure it's not pretty, but so what? I think, overall, the hospitals, Drs, midwives, whoever needs to help better educate women on the risks of C-sec, and the reality of birth. I think SO many people out there are getting their birthing knowledge from Baby Story and Birth Day and such and it just isn't enough. Now, I realize this topic is where I stand HIGH on my soapbox and I am at the extreme opposite pole from someone who would REQUEST a C-sec. I told my DH its a good thing my tubes have been tied because if I got pg again I would homebirth, LOL. He didn't find it as amusing as I did. Sorry if I overstepped my boundaries here!
  9. Thank you all so much! LOL I really appreciate the input!
  10. Hi all! This is my 1st real post besides my intro. So, I have a question. I am in nursing school now and have a bit more to go. I have a wicked twisted sense of humor. I am really really worried about laughing at the wrong time when dealing with a patient. It is like, my biggest fear! I know if I do it I will feel SO bad (even though my sense of humor is warped, I *do* have feelings, LOL). So, is this a common concern? Does this happen much? Yikes! Thanks!
