Facts about NCLEX results

Published

Here you go:

Fact: You can pass or fail with minimum or maximum questions. (Edited to add: or any number of questions in between. Average number of questions completed in 2012 before pass/fail was determined with statistical significance was 119 questions for RN and 117 for PN)

Fact: paying $8 for quick results after 48 hours is an accurate pass/fail result (but your BoN maypost results sooner and you can save $8)

Fact: if you attempt pay $200 to try the trick and the charge goes through there are no refunds if it turns out you passed. This has reportedly happened at least one time.

Fact: neither the new nor the old "trick" have any guaranteed accuracy they are/were exploited glitches in the registration process

Fact: the number of questions or types of questions (SATA, prioritization, etc) have no direct correlation to pass or fail

Fact: over 85% of US educated nurses pass the NCLEX on their first attempt.

Fact: once you get the blue screen and your test is over there is NOTHING that you can do to change the outcome of whether you passed or failed. The only way to alter the results of the NCLEX is in your preparation in the years and months leading up to the NCLEX. (Study hard in school, study question rationales, etc)

Fact: it's can be stressful waiting to test and results. This is expected. Try and do something nice for your self the day before and day of your exam. You deserve it.

My school taught me NCLEX is a hard test. :-)

Just found out I passed this morning in FL. Exactly 48 hours after I finished the exam, my results on pearson vue became available for "Purchase." If you want to know if you passed, THIS is what you have to wait for. Still waiting on my licensure number. Don't panic if you're BON doesn't show you as licensed. These things take time.

I am posting here because this is the kind of comment I was looking for while I was waiting for my results. Those 48 hours are stressful, and it is reassuring to see people post what their situation was like. The glorious 48 where you can't be happy because you haven't passed, and you cant be sad because you haven't failed.

I had 32 SATA's and was cut off at 75. When people say SATA's aren't always difficult questions they are correct. Some of the SATA's were extremely easy... and of course some where the demon spawn of satan's nightmares. I am also fairly certain that the NCLEX invents its own drug names.

I also don't advise graduating in May and waiting 3 months to open a book again. Should you choose this fate as I did, stick to your notes, they will refresh you. Utilize the ATI modules if you still have them from school, and my weapon of choice was the Kaplan Premiere book.

Good speed and god luck to all future NCLEXERS.

Fact: if you whine about waiting 48 hours for results those of us in the 7 states who don't have that option are going to think you're spoilt (well we're going to think something else but I can't say it polite conversation).

Shoot I wish California had 48 hour results. I'll just be waiting anxiously or become a mess before I receive the notice of pass or fail.

This thread is already WAY down the line behind all those new PVT threads people are starting instead of realizing 523 people also started similar threads so I think this one is due for a BUMP. Sometimes I wonder what, if anything, some of these nursing programs are explaining about the ins and outs of NCLEX.

My program explained the ins and outs of that testing; all the way to the four concepts, what to expect, how getting the minimum or maximum and everything in between could be a pass or a fail; when the best time to take the exam (within at least 2 months after completion of your classes and graduation), and the potential challenges of passing past the time period, as well as taking the exam repeatedly. My dean broke down the statistics of the exam as well as the passing statistics and repeat test taking; they even touched on ESL statistics to the cohort that were ESL.

They were VERY thorough.

Fact: over 85% of US educated nurses pass the NCLEX on their first attempt. that’s an 8 and not a 9 right? still afraid here… racking up $$$ in review material.

NCSBN, Hurst, that LaCharity book, Saunders ( 5th ed.)… I might purchase the Kaplan… I have photo memory stuff I correlate to the NCSBN material, also. This is worse than nursing school…

The actual statistics are available on the NCSBN website broken down by diploma. ASN, BSN, & ELMSN candidates.

Each state offers the stats for your school. My alma mater is 95-100% first time pass rate. The for profit schools on probation for low pass rates known to admit anyone who can pay cash or get a loan...pass rates ~50-60% (which statistically knock down the overall pass rate).

I know my program told us about the amount of questions, but they didn't tell us anything about it the fact that it doesn't matter how many the test shuts off at or the types of questions. They definitely should.

Yes, they SHOULD have! That would go a long way towards easing angst of your fellow test-takers.

Shutting off at the minimum means you either did very well....or very poorly. Only YOU know which is MORE likely. Everyone, btw, feels they failed. So revert to the kind of student you've been, how you've been doing on the review tests (ie: Kaplan) and then you'll know.

If you stopped at the maximum number, well, it took a long time to figure out if you were above or below passing standard. By the test's end, either you were at or above and PASSED, or you were below and failed. Pretty simple, but no one really can tell you (based on the kinds of questions or format of those questions) what ANY of it means. You will find out the official results, and only THEN you will know. Truth.

It seems they are failing miserably on that score. I feel for students whose schools did little to inform them of all this!

THANK-YOU so much for this post. I take my nclex tomorrow and needed this to calm me down just a little bit. 85% passed on first try makes me feel a little better and the SATA not being high level/passing helps too! My school prepared us from day one for the nclex, and I am grateful for that! I am having positive thoughts and am determined to pass tomorrow morning! Please pray for me lol!
