Eekk!!! Criminal background check!!! (LONG)

Since my keyboard is finally working again, I have something I need to ask about. My class is entering our last semester and suddenly we get something in the mail asking us to consent to a CRIMINAL background check. Now, I've never been arrested/convicted/etc, so I have no criminal backgroud.....BUT: when I was fresh out of high school I attended a state university for one year and earned 3 credits. I did not attend any classes, was completely overwhelmed, stressed, depressed, drunk, etc. I wanted to start fresh and knew I wanted to go into nursing. I took all my pre-reqs with all A's and now am almost done with the nursing portion (all As and Bs). I know I should have told them about my previous college but I knew no credits would be transfered and really, really wanted to start fresh. I would seriously die if they kicked me out now. The only thing I can think of is that the check is done by an outside commercial agency so I figure that they may only include relivent criminal/arrest issues and info. Someone please????? Does anyone know anything about this? Will they only look at my criminal background (none)? I honestly could not find another career, nursing is my only interest (work related).... :crying2:

they be just looking for criminal stuff , hun.....don't worry. I know this for a fact. Only start to worry if you have a felony!

We recently had to get criminal background checks, and my belief is that it's just that...criminal background stuff.

If you've never been found guilty of a crime or used an alias I think you're pretty much okay :p

Besides, who would have time to double check info about schools?? I don't think they even care unless you have credits you want transferred.

The criminal background check is just that - your criminal background. The check is done through a bureau of your state police or similar law enforcement agency. This will be a common practice wherever you go to work also.

The criminal check is a normal process. It is used to keep known abusive people out of contact with vunerable adults.

This has nothing to do with your past behaviors as a teen, or an adult.

Once I went to Canada and got stopped at the boarder, I got nervous and couldn't remember the name of the Canadian town I was entering. SO they though me supious. They did an FBI check, a Police Check and even called my work. This is not stuff about your personal choices, just your criminal history.

BTW, I did get to go into Canada, and will never again forget the name of that town.

Tell them you had amnesia.

No one cares about any previous schooling unless you want credits transferred. I took some computer courses with my husband many years ago when I was still married...when I figured out he expected me to do all the homework and let him copy it, I quit going -- my only Fs in school. Those credits have never shown up anywhere, not even when I went to grad school.

What if you were convicted of a misdemeanor and you had it expunged off your record. I had all my records and information destroyed. There isn't a way for them to look that information up is there. I am applying to one school and they said that if you had your records expunged to check yes that you have been convicted. My question how would they know if it has been expunged and how would they be able to find your information if it is already destroyed.

Fingerprints are all they're looking for. I feel you may be a tiny bit paranoid. The question is.....why? :p

We all have our secrets.......... :imbar

Don't worry.

Stuff through much research I' ve found to be irrelevant is

soliciting for whatever....and shoplifting......and only in Canada...possesion of narcotics solely for personal use. However...must prove you're clean.

You're gonna be fine...don't let it get to ya! :)

:chuckle I give you all the "allnurses" promise that I'm really not worried about criminal stuff. I've never even been arrested before (which is suprising! :uhoh21: ). But I was so worried that I'd come this far and then there would be some problem b/c of my past college stuff. I've spoken with about half of our class so far and everyone is just beside themselves...and my class is pretty "normal." Some are paranoid that they'll do a credit check also, some are just nervous about nothing (kinda like me). I think were just too high strung!!! But thank you everyone, this has made me feel much better. But I will take the "amnesia" defense if necessary!!!

Huh???

Jaime -- Don't get this. You folks weren't informed of the criminal (and, in our case, child abuse) check when you were first accepted into the program???

Thought all schools did that.
